No, really.

Not making this up.

The most fiercely anti-immigrant POTUS since the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 wants to offer anyone who can pay that sum a "Gold Card Visa." It would carry all the privileges of a green card:

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday the US would sell a “gold card” to wealthy foreigners, giving them the right to live and work in the US and offering a path to citizenship in exchange for a $5 million fee.

“We’re going to be selling a gold card,” Trump said from the Oval Office. “You have a green card. This is a gold card. We’re going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million and that’s going to give you green card privileges, plus it’s going to be a route to citizenship. And wealthy people will be coming into our country by buying this card.”

Trump said the sale of the cards will begin in about two weeks and suggested millions of such cards could be sold.

Asked whether he would consider selling the cards to Russian oligarchs, Trump responded: “Yeah, possibly. I know some Russian oligarchs that are very nice people.”

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, standing alongside Trump, said the card will replace the government’s EB-5 immigrant investor visa program, which allows foreign investors to pump money into US projects that create jobs and then apply for visas to immigrate to the US.

“They’ll have to go through vetting, of course,” Lutnick said, “to make sure they’re wonderful world-class global citizens.”

It's not unprecedented:

Dozens of countries around the world offer some sort of citizenship by investment programme, including several in Europe, like Portugal, which gives "golden visas", or permanent residency for foreigners who invest €500,000 ($524,000) into a qualifying fund.

Trump's $5 million 'gold card' visa unlikely to attract wealthy investors, advisers say

"I do not believe that the current POTUS offer will have a big impact, as getting a green card in the U.S. if you meet certain criteria, is not difficult," said Bassim Haidar, a former UK non-domiciled multimillionaire told Reuters.

"Paying $5 million for a golden visa and getting taxed on your global income defeats the purpose."

Trump's plan comes at a time when the European Union is putting pressure on member states to withdraw or tighten residency-by-investment programs, which can trigger house price bubbles and bring marginal benefits to GDP, as well as increase the risks of tax evasion and corruption.

I guess that would save a lot of oligarchs "jumping" out of windows of Moscow buildings.

Since he's a NYC real estate developer, he also presumably has ties to the Italian Mob.

Arab magats pissed about trump's new travel ban:

"The ban on travel from certain countries that took effect Monday — reminiscent of President Donald Trump's first-term restrictions that became known to many as the 'Muslim ban' — is once again souring relationships among Arab American voters in the key battleground state of Michigan, a group that Trump sought to make inroads with during the 2024 election," said the report.

In particular, the story noted, Yemeni-Americans from Dearborn were blindsided by that country's inclusion.
“This is the reward to the community that defied everybody else? That said, 'No, we’re going to support you, we going to vote for you'?” He further blasted the travel ban as “selective discrimination” and “collective punishment.”

This comes after the Trump administration came under fire for stripping deportation protections from Afghan interpreters who helped U.S. troops.

Trump managed to achieve significant gains from Arab-American voters who were frustrated with the lack of action from the U.S. on pressuring Israel to stop tactics in their war against Hamas in Gaza that were killing and displacing civilian families — only to turn around and enthusiastically endorse Israel's war, undoing the few U.S. checks on Israeli arms shipments that the Biden administration put in place.
always the same story... they think he'll only 'punish' others, not them, that somehow they were protected by him because they believed his bullshit and voted for him. Typical republican behaviour: if it hurts others, so what? if it hurts them? outrage ensues.

As he punishes poor immigrants who toil in the hot sun, he wouldn't care if big time drug dealers making millions come in because the decrepit man worships $$$.

is it a coincidence, that $5M price tag? just askin'

US appeals court won't reconsider Trump's $5 million loss to E. Jean Carroll

now waiting on this next appeal:
Trump, who turns 79 on Saturday, is separately appealing an $83.3 million jury verdict in January 2024 for defaming Carroll and damaging her reputation in June 2019, when he first denied her claim about the Bergdorf encounter.

The president is arguing in that appeal that the U.S. Supreme Court's decision last July providing him substantial criminal immunity shields him from liability in Carroll's civil case.

Appeals Court Shuts Down Trump Effort To Kill $83 Million E. Jean Carroll Case

:catroar:

A federal appeals court Wednesday rejected President Donald Trump’s latest effort to throw out writer E. Jean Carroll’s defamation case against him, ruling against the president’s request to have the government step in for him as a party in the case—and putting Trump one step closer to having to pay out $83 million in damages.

Trump asked the Second Circuit Court of Appeals to allow the government to swap in for him as a party in the case, alleging that since his defamatory statements were made while he was president, Carroll should be suing the government and not Trump as a private citizen.

As the continuing saga of the Days of Our Lives struggles on...

I'm optimistic that @HisArphy will be eating crow when this deranged felon
reaches his last appeal and loses.

Perhaps Arphy will acknowledge he is guilty. More likely, though, he will claim the SC is DEI-hired and biased against him.

Have you looked into the requirements for an American to obtain Mexican Citizenship?
It ain't easy and it ain't cheap.

Trump’s $5 million ‘gold card’ visa might never happen

Aboard Air Force One in April, President Donald Trump flashed a laminated, golden prototype to reporters and announced that it would become available “in about less than two weeks,” while the White House launched a website in June to sign people up to join a waiting list.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who is leading the rollout, has suggested that the gold card visa would replace an investor visa — called EB-5 — that has a long queue. But any effort to give wealthy people a visa ahead of people who have been waiting in line is bound to lead to legal challenges, attorneys say.

Doug Rand, senior adviser to the former director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under President Joe Biden, said that no administration has changed visa eligibility criteria since the 1990 law that formed today’s green card and temporary visa categories.

“There’s no lawful basis to do this, and if they do it anyway, they’re going to get sued, and they’re almost certainly going to lose,” Rand said.

Philadelphia-based immigration attorney Ron Klasko said he has had some clients from Canada and Europe express interest in the visa, but he has told them there is little use in even signing up for the waiting list until the path becomes clearer.

“Why would I want to do that before I know if it’s a law, what the law says, what the requirements are, what information the form is going to ask me for, what documents I have to produce, what the terms and conditions are,” Klasko said.

all fake gold and no knickers

Buy into Amerikkka for $5 milllion then buy yourself a bunch of farmland complete with a farm full of devoted workers for you to “supervise”

I mentioned this before, but it bears repeating:

Imagine the kind of people from some drug producing, oil producing, and totalitarian / authoritarian countries who would have that kind of money to spend on DonOld’s "Gold Card"…

🤔 😳 😑 🤬

We. Told. Them. So.

indeed. The immigration experts point out that not only would this have to e passed via Congress, there's little to no appetite for it and it wasn't even mentioned in meetings intent on strengthening immigration rules/procedures. Plus if it's to 'replace' the EB5 'investor visa', there's already an existing queue of people who wouldn't be happy about newcomers jumping over them in the queue!

If you can put aside your hatred for a moment, you might recall Canada did the same thing when many Hong Kong residents relocated before the handover back to China (not trusting Communist/socialist/authoritarian regime.

IIRC, the "price" was a million in assets or investments.

a) hatred is way too strong a word. I despise the man, loathe his policies (such as they are, the whims of a petulant child), and believe he's brought the USA into the lowest state of global respect maybe ever seen for an American president.

b) Of course some other countries have similar programs, including India as the latest. However, did Canada go through the proper channels to make theirs happen, or did they flout something in the tackiest of manners that was challenged in court should it actually see the light of day for its legality?

It is better to have people of means coming into the country than welfare-seeking individuals from the Third World.

🙄

So NOT the same AT ALL then…

😑

Also:

We are talking about the U.S. here.

What happened prior to the rather unique Hong Kong handover is irrelevant.

And people investing in other countries (Canada, India, etc) for citizenship is NOT equivalent to gaining UNITED STATES CITIZENSHIP. See also: Post # 19 in this thread. Which individuals in the countries mentioned in Post # 19 have the money to BUY UNITED STATES CITIZENSHIP???

😑

🤬

I have a vision of ICE, all masked & gunned up, standing outside banks waiting for people to sneak up with their 5 million bucks in holdalls.

Snatch squads leaping into action before the millionaires have a chance to make their deposits.
