Near as I can figure out, the genesis of this particular internet misinformation is contributions to Stonewall from the Global Equality Fund (GEF), which is overseen by the US state department, collecting donations from various countries, businesses and private individuals to try to protect gays from gay-bashing, which seems like a creditable goal.

My goodness, if the USAID really did have all the money to pay for all the schemes they are alleged to be behind they'd be spending. . . more money than the USA government spends on electric-vehicle subsidies for Tesla!

But nobody really disagrees about the facts here! All the news media, whether they work for Putin or not, showed Russian tanks and soldiers rolling in to Ukraine's territory, to try to topple the government and annex Ukrainian land.

All the news media reported Putin's "justification" for the invasion as well, that the Ukrainians are "Nazis" and that the Crimea and those eastern provinces of Ukraine really belong to Russia, and he's just "recovering" them.

Of course anyone, even those not "manipulated by the CIA" can see that those claims are transparent nonsense.
