i have to strongly disagree with you...freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences...there is a HUGE difference between playful banter amoung friends and someone coming into a thread for the sole purpose of inciting arguments and personally attacking people. that this is your initial reaction troubles me greatly. he was given the benefit of the doubt and nicely asked to change his behavior and he doubled down. how many people have him on ignore? this should be a clear red flag. i hope you will do the right thing, but if not, i have to ask the question if there is someone the situation can be escalated to. ignore is not the answer, its not even a block...they can still see messages and interact in the thread. the goal should be to create a safe and friendly environment for everyone. allowing this kind of behavior would be extremely disappointing.

As far as the Mods, I had modded forums and subreddits. It is an annoying headache and thankless yet necessary job. And @ToPleaseHim has always done a fair, evenhanded job. The Playground is the fun palace it is because of her work, and the other mods. Venture into the unmoderated boards and you see the difference. Or don't--I wouldn't suggest it.

As far as playful banter, I agree, but that is also subjective, especially asking a mod who doesn't play here to come in and read the whole of 900 pages from a few complaints. Read some of the stuff between @Fiestykitten and I and you could come to the conclusion that we hate each other. Context is king. (And the poor Kitten is falling in love with me).

Were you I, and you are not, but were you, I would tell myself to stick to the giants and ignore the windmills. My automatic reaction is to protect those I care about and places I enjoy. But there is only so much I can do, and playing into someone's games often just feeds them and makes everything else worse, like a bad dumpster fire. We like our dumpster fires to be joyful.
