Busy day today.

I was off for Presidents’ Day, but there’s no rest for the weary. The property we manage in a town near us is almost entirely in the shade so we had to break up ice with a breaker bar. I had to buy sand and a little bit of a “land reclamation “ from the snowplow to get some rocks and stones on top of the ice to give it some gription. (Grip plus traction.)

Had to do the same at the farm. And we sold a shit load of firewood, so I had to fill up the wood bins.

Mrs wonderer and I then went to one of her customers to get some pussy willow clippings. Believe it or not they are currently blooming. (Pics below)

Heh, heh, I also said pussy…

Went to a gun store I know, and I made a purchase I’ve been wanting for a while. A Colt Python revolver.

Now making wonderer gravy for spaghetti squash. Gonna watch the SNL 50th anniversary show.

We cook a lot of whole chickens. I save the drippings/broth for soup, which is a great base to start with. Even the soup is like jello when it cools. So much better flavor. Also the added fat and protein keep you full compared to a soup without that base.

It's right at zero out there, and now you're making me want soup!

It’s less expensive and you get a lot of mileage out of it. You get all the meat and you also get to make a nice stock.

Even in the 20s, they were blooming today. It wasn’t upper Midwest cold, but it was pretty good New Jersey cold - and with a whipping wind.

My wife took a boatload of clippings, and we’re going to propagate them and plant them in the streambank where we are having bad erosion. I planted a shit load of for forsythia in the streambank last year and red twigged dogwood. Supposedly they are good for preventing erosion.

In the UP of Michigan, they bloom in early March, so not too far off for you guys.

Hang in there! I think this is the last set of storms and cold.

We watched the SNL 50th anniversary show tonite. It was pretty good!

Recommended.

Usually there are some real clunkers for skits, but this was pretty good. And it was awesome to see bill Murray - who can do no wrong in my book.
