The fall of the American Empire

America has reinvented itself many times since its inception.

Regressive Individuals and movements (President Musk, DonOld, MAGAts, etc) may fall, but the idea that IS American progressive exceptionalism will carry on.

America remains the worlds best hope for a progressive future, but the wholesale rejection of President Musk, DonOld, & the MAGAts, etc, needs to happen first.

That ^ WILL happen sooner than later.

There have been many empires. The Roman empire is often used for comparison because it's well documented in history, and because some nations don't want to be reminded of the horrors they committed in their imperial periods.

If America does pursue isolationism, China will eat its lunch on soft and hard power. Belt and road is already doing the former. Its rapid rearmament programme will sort the latter. I'll be very surprised if they don't make a bold move on Taiwan in Trump's term, because they know he'll do fuck all to stop them.

I'd agree. I'm pretty sure in Trump's mind; the USA annexes North and South America. Russia gets Europe, and China gets Asia. Guess we all need to move to Australia...

Maybe why he's so keen on Greenland, Canada and Panama.

Also, China gets Africa, which they're belt-and-roading the fuck out of already, for the minerals.

What’s happening in the USA now is akin to the fall of the Roman Empire.
It didn’t start with Trump but, it will end with him!
Congratulations America!
Well we're not an Empire. We are a Constitutional Republic. What defines America and keeps it going is the fact that no single branch of government holds absolute power. We are a nation of law-makers, law-enforcers, and law-executors. All must justify their actions by citing the Constitution.

Only when a people reject the Constitution will you have lawlessness and decline.

That's exactly what Musk and Trump are doing.

There is a group (President Musk, DonOld, the MAGAts, etc) that are openly rejecting the constitution, so…

For America / the American idea to grow, President Musk, DonOld, the MAGAts, etc got to go; full stop.

To be fair they are testing the Constitution. Only through lawsuits will the test commence and be decided. There isn't some Constitution guy who immediately prohibits unconstitutional acts. Any challenge has to go through the courts.

Lol. It's in the fucking title dude.

If they are not following the law then I am sure someone has started a legal action making that case. That is how our system works.

Yeah, it sure worked on stopping a felon with 34 convictions from taking over.

Your system is broken, bozo.

Screenplay Writer: Here's my idea: a group of citizens are tired of their king, and want to form a democracy!

Studio Exec: *hand clap* Love it so far! Keep going.

Screenplay Writer: So they get on a boat, and head to a foreign land to set one up.

Studio Exec: Ocean, potential danger, very good!

Screenplay Writer: And they get there, and start interacting with the natives -

Studio Exec: The natives are happy about them being there?

Screenplay Writer: Well...no, but -

Studio Exec: Do they eventually help them set up the democracy?

Screenplay Writer: *hand waver* Ehhhh.....

Studio Exec: Sorry, sorry. Please continue.

Screenplay Writer: Right. So, lots of stuff happens: famine, wars, you name it. But, long story short, they establish the democracy! And then they start expanding -

Studio Exec: Wait; I know I'm halting your progress here, but the natives - they have to be pissed with all the expanding going on, right?

Screenplay Writer: Yeah - they don't like it too much...

Studio Exec: So your group of democracy seekers are the...what, villains in this story?

Screenplay Writer: NO! I mean...no. Democracy is good. But they need land -

Studio Exec: Uh huh. And do they have anyone else helping them with - what I assume - is a radical expansion of both territory and industry?

Screenplay Writer: .............yes.

Studio Exec: ...and are those "helpers" doing so voluntarily, and treated the same as the others under said democracy...?

Screenplay Writer: .............

Studio Exec: .............

Screenplay Writer: I'm not going to get this made, am I?

Studio Exec: Permanent Development Hell, kid. And that's best-case scenario.

oh no, Africa's the place they can go to war over. Can't be making all those military weapons and not have a place to use them.

Total Bollocks: The USA is a Plutocracy run by and for the Billionaires and no-one else. That situation prevails whichever party is in power, the Democrats are every bit as self interested as the Republicans.

I know you’re joking, but American political ideas about individual freedom did in fact originate with Native American political theorists. Individual freedom was strongly valued in Native American societies, but not in Europe.

The Roman Empire was conquered by foreign invaders. There are none in play now.

(No, immigrants are not invaders.)

No, those originated with John Locke. The only political ideas white Americans ever got from the NAs were tips from the Iroquois on how to set up a federal state like the Iroquois League. (The FFs kept Iroquois advisers on hand, in Philadelphia, during the Constitutional Convention.)
