It's not so much about the word limit per post - you'll encounter that if your post is too long - as it is about going overboard with snippets that really belong on the story side of the site.

Otherwise it would be too tempting to post complete stories here, instead of having them moderated before publication. People could use this as a workaround to avoid things like minimum age restrictions and the ban on AI.

The official rule is "max three paragraphs". There seems to be a little leeway though. For a start, I think that's a rule from when the site was first created, and people tended to write longer paragraphs. Nowadays it's quite common for paragraphs to be no more than 100 words or so, for ease of reading on mobile devices.

In the Authors' Hangout we generally stick to 250-350 words maximum for story snippets. But that's on the mods' forbearance, and we take very good care not to abuse their trust by posting any content that breaks the normal publication rules.

Basically, my advice is not to post anything here that you want to be permanent. Always copy it to a separate file, so if the mods delete it you'll still have a record of it.
