Three weeks into this administration, and already we have a constitutional crisis?!

'Please pay attention': J.D. Vance's statement after big court loss alarms legal experts

Vice President J.D. Vance signaled that President Donald Trump's administration is poised to ignore a judicial ruling, according to experts.

Raw Story reported on Saturday that legal analysts looking at Elon Musk's social media activity predicted that he would at least consider denying a major court order that limited his access to Treasury Department data.

The next day, Vance seemed to indicate that same plan, according to attorneys. The V.P. said in part, "Judges aren’t allowed to control the executive’s legitimate power."

This led to the Co-director of the Liberty and National Security Program at the Brennan Center for Justice, Elizabeth Goitein, saying, "The Trump administration seems to be gearing up to defy a court order, with JD Vance tweeting this morning: 'Judges aren’t allowed to control the executive’s legitimate power.'"

"The battle lines for our democracy have been drawn," she added. "As anyone who has had an introductory civics class knows, if a president disagrees with a court order, the remedy is to appeal. There’s a reason Trump & co. don’t like that option: they know their actions are illegal and many will be rejected even by Trump’s own SCOTUS justices."

If they're going to ignore court rulings, they might go ahead and start deporting brown-skinned citizens, on the assumption that Trump's EO against birthright citizenship is valid.

Wonder if the third Trump impeachment will go any differently from the last two.

Not until the Senate is 2/3 Dem, it won't.

Nixon finally decided to resign when a delegation of Congressional Republicans came to the White House and told him, proof of your guilt is now undeniable, and we would have no choice but to vote to impeach and convict you.

Republicans had integrity in 1974.

But that's a long time ago, now.

This is serious shit. We've depended on the courts to protect the rule of law since the beginning of the republic. Not even Nixon ever defied them this brazenly.

It seems they can't find enough undocumented immigrants to deport . . . so this might well be the next step.

mmmm Guess your mind is so feeble you cant remember Boma Boma and Biden both ignored court decisions

SCOTUS partial immunity ruling that POTUS can't be held accountable for actions taken within official duties kicked one of the pillars of checks and balances away. Congress won't impeach him for ignoring the courts because it is led by his sycophants. I was waiting to see how long it would take Trump to say fuck the courts, I'm going to do what I want.

N.B.: He can still be impeached for acts for which he cannot be prosecuted. Impeachment is a political, not a judicial process -- an impeachable offense is whatever Congress says it is, and that decision is not reviewable by any court of law. It does not follow the same rules as a criminal prosecution because it is not one -- the impeached party's life and freedom are not at stake, only his job.

Impeachment is only a threat if Congress is willing, and able to get enough votes, to do it.

Then it won't happen until after the midterms.

The way things are going, impeachment will be a campaign issue in the midterms.
