I've been on the site long enough now to have noticed one thing about this 'Artists Corner': artists here in the majority seem to depict in one of two styles: all cartoony and not true-to-life... or all modern arty and not true-to-life.

I get the definite impression that realistic representation is being avoided out of some kind of dislike or contempt.

Or is it maybe too much like hard work..? Maybe I should whisper that...

The truly cartoonish stories you find here are just smut for the sake of simple stimulus don’t you think? Some stories - probably most, are nonsensical, overly baudy, erotica tied to some kink theme. I really don’t believe that there are thousands of mothers out there actually having sex with their college age sons, nor teachers with their shy students, or men who suddenly find they can perform mind-control on random women. No one in those roles actually wants to live those fantasies, but they can be very hot stories if they are at least written well. After all, isn’t that the only true requirement of a writer? Fantasy is fantasy after all.

I have been writing stories for about 6-7 years, mostly for my wife and a friend who would mention some hot thought they had. Mine are mostly what you decry here: pure fantasy. I would endeavor to maintain a believable plot and make the characters dynamic and complex, I don’t know if that is what you mean by “modern arty”, but I never had “true-to-life” in mind, until some of my recent uploads. Like you, my wife has had a mid-life, sudden acceleration of her sex drive, thankfully, and I have been chronicling our adventures on Literotica. They may seem cartoonish to you, I would like your opinion as a fellow artist, it might just be my failings as a writer, but those stories are true-to-life accounts. Criticism of an artist is double edged, your “whisper” comment tells me you know this, but it is appreciated by me if it helps improve my craft.

Very interesting post, buddy, but this is the "visual" artist's corner. Pretty sure she was talking about artwork and not stories... 😉

I was.

Be that as it may, I think that that there are many stories both on here and elsewhere written not in semi-jest but as a genuine attempt to produce a worthwhile, readable tale which is meant to be taken seriously.

Granted that this board is given over to art for art's sake, even so I see very little by way of acknowledgement from the artists on here that sex can be portrayed realistically to match the intention of those writers.

I am by no means an artist. I can draw a decent stick figure with boobs. But to address your initial question, do you think it could be because very talented artists feel that more photorealistic pieces don't show off their personal artistic flares enough?

Yes, my apologies, as literature is also art, I made an assumption, I missed the “visual arts corner” my bad.😊

Hit us with your best shots.

Art ain't as easy as some think it might be.

Personally, I think Mac's stuff is above the level of amateur comics.

I don't always agree with a lot of things JaFo says, but I agree with this one. I had a teacher years ago, a classmate had drawn a sketch of a civil war battle for history class. Another classmate began critiquing it, minor flaws. The teacher told him if he drew a better picture, he could critique that student's. Otherwise, he could appreciate the work and say nothing

Yes, that's ONE possible explanation. I wonder where the truth lies.

And who's talking about "Mac"..?

You're complaining about the works on this board being 'cartoony', yet you provide none of your own works. I say the works here are as professional as artists who lean towards 'realism'.

When YOU can draw like Mac, Blur, Doc, Lihella, Throbbs or any of the other contributors here, you may have something to say.
