The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

I haven't left my house since Monday and I dont plan too anytime soon.

I wish it was warmer so I could start weeding flowerbeds ...takes a lot of angst

And I think I am.gonna buy a new push mower. The one I have is old hard to.push and the pull cord always comes loose....

My yard looks so much nicer push mowed.... esp around the house and the front yard

Sweet little tdk.... she was sitting by the phone agreeing with everything ethyl was saying...

I am glad the new job is working for you.... I wish I was a little happier but thats me.... the eeyore of the group....

But I am a loveable little eeyore..... ♥️

Just remember, this is so not the rest of your Life.

Nor is what I'm doing mine. I can maybe see my way clear for 24 months. I'll evaluate at the end of next year. If I have enough bank, then we'll see. It'll be close.

LMAO! That reminded me of standing outside and turning the antenna so dad could watch the Razorback games!
My dad would mess w m when’s I was a kid, turning the antenna this way and that.

“Right there…. Ok… now lift up your right leg…” 😂

And dumbass me would be sitting there for a few minutes, him keeping a straight face.

What's the rest of the story? Was there a problem?
Hey Lillanna23,

One thing I do remember, we hadn't shifted to shore power, don't know if it was because of the date or time we'd pulled in or what. As for my part the Hull Technicians was R-Division or Repair Division and were part of the Engineering Department we didn't have anything to do with the operations of the engine rooms.

If memory services me right, they must have caught it before there was a major problem because liberty went down as scheduled. However, the guys working in the engine room still had to perform maintenance to flush out any mud sucked in as I didn't see many of them crossing the Quarter Deck going on liberty.

I had 2 Chebbies in a row that broke my heart and I drive Dodges/Rams any more. My classic interests are 1941-1947 Packard Clippers. I like the short wheel-base coupes the best, and I wanna build a ballsy inline 8 for one or two of the ones I have accumulated.

I do still respect old Chevies. I'd kind of like a '32 coupe.

Don't tell Wonderer67 - he likes Fords.

I agree. Love being outside, tending to plants. Weeding, seeing my punkins grow…

And mowing the lawn. The lines gotta be perfectly straight….

It is good for angst and anxiety.

Or if you’re a nut, like me!

For an experiment, we moved a bunch of plants into the shop, with a tiny little heater and grow lights.
We're still getting tomatoes and peppers, the roses, a cactus and a lemon tree bloomed.

He sounds like a stand up captain.... I assume you got out of the mud!!
He was. As an E-3, I had very little to do with him, but he came across as "firm but fair". The only other time I crossed paths with him was during an amphibious operation and we were 'ballasting down' to launch landing craft out of the well deck. A twelve-inch expansion joint in the ballast piping system blew out and I was sent with another HTFA (E-2) to replace it. Actually, a pretty simple, straight forward job, just very wet.

As we were coming up out of the space the expansion joint was located, we ran head-on into the Captain and a Rear-Admiral who was on board for whatever Admiral business was. My shipmate and I looked like drowned rats loaded down with the old expansion joint and tools.

We jumped back in an "Oh Shit!" manner and the Captain recognized me from the draft report incident. He asked, "Fireman D., is there a problem?" I was standing as straight as a drowned rat could in tight quarters, loaded down with tools and said, "No sir, a ballast expansion joint blew out and we just replace it."

The Captain just smiled, nodded his head, looked back at the Admiral, who said, "Carry on, I'm not going to interfere with working sailors." And they went on about with whatever Captains and Admirals do."

Todays coffee…

These are the classic diner to go cups or from any sidewalk stand in New York City, job site breakfast trucks…

No matter how cold or how hot, these cups will always have a place on my heart. My sister got me a ceramic one for Christmas.

Getting plants ready early is a thing! Even winter gardening. We grow lettuce year-round.

Once we even grew a pot plant! Man do they smell!!

All that’s in my driveway is Ford.

My wife is allowed to have her Honda, tho…
Run a lot of Ford. Ran come Chevy. Lots of Subaru, too. (I keep saying I'll never buy another one, but they're reliable, AWD, easy to work on, rust slower, get good gas mileage...)

Only Dodge is a '35 pickup. Actual Dodge brothers type vehicle.

That’s a good officer.

Respects his crew. Trusts then and didn’t pull that officer bullshit. Owned the issue.

Respect.

There were only a few officers I couldn’t respect when I was in the army. Most of the officers I worked with were committed, forward looking and solution oriented and had their shit buttoned up tight. There were a few tho… Lt Christiansen comes to mind (name changed to protect the guilty)
He was one of the good guys as was the Engineering Officer, he helped me get orders to dive school. My Chief (E-7) was crusty, as good Chiefs usually are, but good to work for as was the R-Division LPO (Leading Petty Officer an E-6). Our Division Officer was a different story. He came aboard as an Ensign (O-1) and left the Navy four years later as an Ensign.

At a dive boat company I worked for, safety regs didn't allow me to replace an end on a drop cord, but they'd allow me to stand in 6 inches of water and connect 480V shore power in a live panel, to get the crew off of payroll.
