This is the stuff that literally keeps communities up at night. And it sure as hell isn't going in my backyard; there's an ocean in the way. :)

Our dear PB MAGAts, who live off the gov't dole / live in poor areas, are about to get some very loud neighbors.

Trump will announce a $500 billion AI infrastructure investment in the US

New York
CNN —

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is set to appear at the White House Tuesday afternoon alongside President Donald Trump and other tech CEOs to announce a massive private sector investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States, a source familiar with the discussions confirmed to CNN.

OpenAI is set to partner with Oracle and SoftBank to pour up to $500 billion in the coming years into an AI data center project called Stargate, the person said. The plans were first reported by CBS.

AI leaders have for months been sounding the alarm that more data centers — as well as the chips and electricity and water resources to run them — are needed to power their artificial intelligence ambitions in the coming years.

There is a huge AI data center outside of San Antonio, Texas. They consume an enormous amount of electrical power each year to operate (graphics processors are very electricity hungry).

They've contracted with the state of Texas power authority (ERCOT) to purchase an enormous block of electrical power, paying in advance for a substantial discount.

In the summertime during extreme heat waves, the plants voluntarily shut down, reselling portions of their power allotment back to the state at full retail value plus a premium to prevent "rolling blackouts".

These power sell-backs currently contribute 90% of the profits generated by these AI plants.

This is great info; thank you.

I know the answer but I shall ask - - does he have a clue how much power needs to be generated to make this a reality?

Good god this is stupid. Data centers *can* be as loud as a lawn mower. But do you weenies cry over you neighbors mowing the lawn?

If lawnmowers ran all night, keeping me awake, I would probably complain.

Yours is false equivalency to the stupidity level of potato. Thanks for the laugh! :ROFLMAO:

Guess what?????!!!

As predicted, red states aren't happy about this. :) ♥️

Trump’s AI infrastructure plans could face delays due to Texas Republicans

Republican-controlled state house poised to pass legislation that imposes regulatory hurdles on data centers

China delivered a master stroke in realpolitik by announcing the low-cost, low-power Deepseek LLM built entirely on "antique" technology from 2021 and earlier just days after Trump proudly unveiled his bigliest grift ever - Stargate.

This has triggered an era of uncertainty and navel gazing in the AI community, which to date has been mostly smoke and mirrors in America anyway. China has inelegantly but effectively bastardized the generative AI process.

Microsoft figured out exactly what they did and how they did it (it's worth noting that the ORIGINAL white paper on generative Artificial Intelligence was written by a Chinese national employed by Microsoft's Chinese subsidiary). and Microsoft promptly cancelled ("deferred development") of a string of high power data centers.

There are seven major AI companies in America, called The Magnificent Seven. Deepseek absolutely destroyed one of them (Anthropic) because Anthropic's future profitability was entirelydependent upon developing and selling front end processes for AGI, a technology which Deepseek now gives away for free). Their business model is capital-F Fucked.

Looks like the end of the "AI Bubble" in the stock market has arrived, which will cause a recession even if Don Cheetolini™ wasn't fucking around with tariffs.

Yes, the states that supported the election of Trump should bear the adverse environmental impacts and job losses associated with Amerika's haphazard and profit-driven approach to developing AI.

Elections have consequences.

The term is "Demand Response" It's used all over, including Canada.

It's not a "power sell back" its a payment for reducing your consumption during certain time periods. And yes it can be very profitable.
