The Chinese car market is equal in size to the US and European markets put together. In China EVs account for about 51% of sales and BYD has moved well ahead of Tesla as the biggest manufacturer of EV's. All markets have massive excess manufacturing capacity. VW and Mercedes biggest market was China and it has essentially gone. Nissan, Honda. GMs and Fords market shares have collapsed not just in China but in the whole of SE Asia. Big shake outs ahead in Asia, EU and US.

Big question is what will happen when Stellantis et al come to Trump looking for a bail out.

That's been their primary profit driver to date (pun semi-intended). Good ole boys in the Red States want to buy their 10mpg pickup trucks, and President Musk sells Co2 certificates to Detroit because EVs don't pollute the way pickup trucks do, they actually have an environmental surplus credit they can and do sell.
