February 1 and I'm already sick of it.

The only reason the ice fog around here won't last is because it's going to get too cold. Without any of the snow we so desperately need, of course.

The Weather Song sums it up pretty well. Mmmf!

Ice fog isn't something we deal with here, so I'm trying to imagine what it's like. Right now we are getting some very welcome rain. It's been dry for a while.

We're looking at highs in the mid-60s (°F) this week. Maybe this is Mother Nature's way of apologizing for the absolutely brutal January. It was so bad we barely left the house.

Now I'm waiting for things to dry out (from the lingering snow) to do outside work. My mechanic laughed at me yesterday when I said that, "Wear your muck boots!" commenting that his yard was almost a swamp.

I believe you and I may be in the same general neck of the woods.

Pop down here. The southern half of Australia has extreme heat warnings, from WA to Victoria and NSW; up Townsville way there's a major flood warning, coupled with high tides. Hot and wet ;).

We had a brutal summer in Nevada, we hit record highs near 50C

20 below here tonight, but we're in North America. Tomorrow is Candlemas, the first day of Spring in the traditional European calendar (Feb, Mar, Apr = Spring). In Europe, the solstices and equinoxes were the midpoints of the seasons; we take them as the first days of the seasons.
So for tomorrow, if you're not into groundhogs,

"If Candlemas be fair and bright,
Six weeks more Winter are in sight."

I didn't know that. Thank you!

It has been warm the last few days here. Must be the world healing from that winter virus that's been affecting it.

January was quite a month, starting out with a terrorist truck driver in New Orleans and ending with a plane crash in Washington. Some other unfortunate events happened, so February has to be better, right?

I stand corrected - first snow this year. Only 3” of Lite-n-Fluffi™ when we need three feet of the real stuff, but it’s a start for the farmers and fire crews next year. Fingers crossed.

Gawd. This morning it was brought to my attention just how awful Februaries are in our household... by a teary spouse who took about an hour to console. I should note the 1st of this month on the perpetual calendar as a reminder.

She has SAD - seasonal affective disorder - really bad. Stiff upper lip from November through January, but it hits hard in February. She tried antidepressants in prior years, but the side effects are worse than the depression, which alone is depressing. We also tried light therapy, but when she isn't sleeping the day away she's too agitated to stay put. Best we can do is hope for sunny days when it's possible to nap on our bed in the afternoon sunshine.

So, yeah. February really, really sucks.
