A federal judge on Monday temporarily blocked the National Institutes of Health from implementing steep cuts to how medical research grants are funded, after 22 states sued to stop the change.

The ruling by District Judge Angel Kelley, who was nominated by President Biden in 2021, halts the policy pending further court arguments from states and the Trump administration. A hearing is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 21.

"We will not allow the Trump Administration to unlawfully undermine our economy, hamstring our competitiveness, or play politics with our public health," had said Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell in a statement announcing the lawsuit.

Hospitals and universities criticized the move, first announced Friday by the Trump administration, which the National Institutes of Health said would save the federal government more than $4 billion a year.

President Musk announced an arbitrary cap of 15% on "indirect costs" of NIH projects....you know, lab supplies, test tubes, beakers....science stuff. NIH grants generally had funded roughly 40-45% of lab supplies, but y'know, if public school teachers have to buy their own supplies, why shouldn't scientists?

Trump and Musk are crippling America, while Nanner Boy is dancing and gibbering. :nana:

If we shut down the NIH, we'll never know there was another pandemic until after it's over.....

Like all cabinet money pits, it has a little bit of time to show it is worth some of the money it has received. Money pit residents could throw corporate pharma and corporate food under the bus to save their jobs, or plan to move to corporate pharma jobs.

*relevant, since its withdrawal means more cancer etc...*

trump withdraws plans to limit toxicity of industrial wastewater

The proposal, put forth by the Biden Administration, was set to go before a White House review, and if successful, it would have been publicly announced and implemented.

The New Lede noted it would have only applied to 13 industrial facilities, but it would have been an important first step to reduce public exposure to chemicals that have been linked to cancer, decreased immune system response, and childhood obesity.

"Yesterday's action by the Trump administration to withdraw the long-awaited proposal on PFAS effluent limits is a devastating setback in the fight to protect our communities from toxic 'forever chemicals,'" read a statement from Melanie Benesh, vice president for government affairs at the Environmental Working Group.

"This move not only delays establishing critical federal standards but also sends a dangerous message giving polluters a green light to continue poisoning our water and communities without fear of consequence."
he literally doesn't care... he'll be dead soon enough anyway and so climate change and poisoned water, dead oceans and the general plight of humanity really doesn't affect him much.
