Like I said, NASA and SpaceX will become one and the same.

NASA has been long overdue for an overhaul. SpaceX's rockets are outperforming NASA's own efforts by leaps and bounds, with faster results and cheaper cost.

NASA's new czar likes to work like SpaceX does. SpaceX will be given priority, leverage, and extra leeway to do their thing. Old NASA heads will hate this and split; they already despise SpaceX.

Of course, there's a lot of negative to potentially come from this arrangement regarding safety, lack of oversight, and much more. I also don't expect SpaceX to play fair with others like Blue Origin, which will hinder progress. And there's the very real possibility of people running for cover with their pockets overflowing with ill-gotten cash if shit goes south, leaving us with no functional space program whatsoever, and the need for a government bail-out.

Wouldn't be surprised if the whole mess came full circle and eventually resembled the NASA which we have today, with all of those same problems. :rolleyes:

I was trying to make that last point in another thread focused on President Musk and SpaceX:

To do the truly groundbreaking things NASA has historically done with a reasonable level of competence, reliability, and safety, SpaceX will inevitably HAVE TO become NASA.

A Mars mission DONE RIGHT will require a NASA level of investment and rigor.
