Happy Thursday!!! Damn, it's cold. Funeral day. Mom is becoming a source of concern. She called last night at 10:45 asking where I was and why I hadn't picked her up to go. I told her it was because it was Wednesday night and not Thursday morning and that I was trying to sleep like most people in our timezone. I then asked how you make that mistake without looking out the window and seeing Dark. We've had this discussion before, but then she's always had a tendency to believe whatever her mind tells her.

If there's one thing I have learned in Life, it's not to believe everything I think.

My grandpa does the same thing. I was visiting him and we were watching a movie together. He looked at his watch 3pm. And he said the nurse always comes at 8pm with his pills and she never came. I told him it's 3 pm. He asked why I was there at 3am. He finally looked outside and saw the sun and realized he was wrong and kept watching the movie. Short term memory is starting to go, but long term is still there.

I think that it's more about paying attention (really not paying attention) than about short-term memory. This happens from time to time, and we've had this discussion. That's why your phone has day/date/time on the very front screen - so you can remind yourself what planet you're on. Or look out the window for the Large Glowing Yellow Ball.

Years ago, she would have beaten me for paying this level of unawareness.

Unfortunately my children’s mother, my X, is going downhill into full grown dementia. I am doing what I can to help my children cope and manage.

Its disconcerting to see our parents do this stuff.....

One thing that hasn't changed is her ability to treat her cranky old children like a couple of simple-minded snotnoses. We see and we say, and she ignores and resists/rebels.
Yeah.... my mom stood over me when I went over to tell me how to use the vacumn..... mind I am 54 and have the same damn vacumn.... and I know how persnickity she is about stuff...... I finally was like...."mom...I got it..." she was like ok ok..... and I got the vacumning/mopping done.... she just needs things done a certain way..... it is annoying but it is a control thing... she can't control much but she can control the rainbow vacumn

I am a nurse and they don't take nursing advice..... and I have repeatedly said..... well you have to live with it...let me know when we need to do something different

Free will and all that
