There are two main Sentencing principles in a criminal conviction.

General Deterence and Specific Deterence.

You’re whining about the General aspect…you make it sound like paying off a hooker to shut up is s common crime, one someone You would go to jail for, but you offer no case examples from the publuc record.

My view is that as the thread title illustrates, the Specific Deterence to Trump is the fact he’s the first felonious president.

Nope. It is an easy call on Biden's pardon of his son. He promised the nation he would not and then did so. That's how Trump acts. Both are culpable to some degree now. Biden is not a shining star in my world over this particular matter. Trump has been coal dust for most of his life with deplorable actions as a businessman and as a President.

You see, I have the integrity to call out what I think is wrong, you have never called out Biden for anything. You defiantly support, right or wrong, everything that incompetent fool does or says. There’s enough compelling evidence to initiate a grand jury investigation that Biden used his office for financial gain, but his lawyers, combined with the DOJ running a protection racket for Biden, have effectively protected Biden from future prosecution. He pardoned his son all the way back to 2014 for all criminal activity including tax evasion and any future criminal charges conveniently rendering any evidence of racketeering and tax fraud inadmissible in court.

Don’t forget Biden is the individual that totally fucked up the Afghanistan withdrawal. He and he only is responsible for leaving Americans behind. Putting soldiers in harms way which led to 13 brave soldiers and marines losing their lives.

The guy running the investigation was a Republican, so that tells me a couple of things: The investigation found that it couldn't support the allegations at a trial level and that in war, soldiers die directly or indirectly by the actions of others. Trump initiated and set the deadline date for withdrawal; Biden abided by that date. The Taliban, who swore it would be a peaceful exit, lied. Multiple layers of blame, my friend, not all the onus was on Biden. My $0.02 on your prismatic perception of the events.

Most legal beagles, prominent prosecutors, constitutional scholars have never seen an “ unconditional discharge “ ever used in a felony conviction. Just a vindictive way to continue the talking point that Trump is a convicted felon. On to the appellate courts and then to the SCOTUS.

Nothing about Trump is ever in a usual legal case. He is a unicorn among criminals. So, no one should be surprised by the decision and sentencing terms.

I'd have liked to see a standard sentencing: prison time, but held in abeyance until after his Presidency ends, a fine to cover the costs as might be the norm.
