I don't remember which category or tags the story had.

There was a scene where the villain of the piece threatened to do something to the MC's parent(s) if the MC didn't do what he was told. The MC took off his shirt to show scars, briefly described the abuse he had endured from the parent(s), then said something along the lines of 'go right ahead' or 'knock yourself out' to the threat.

I think the villain might have been the MC's father-in-law (past, present, or future), but I might be mixing it up with details from another story.

I think I read a story with a plot like that, but I can't remember the title or author.

In the story I remember, the MC grew up in a trailer park and worked a part-time job next to high school. A spoiled, rich girl somehow decided she wanted him as her prom date, but he didn't want anything to do with her, citing his work as a reason to not even attend their prom. So, she uses her father's (MC's future FIL) influence to make MC's boss pull him off the work schedule, so MC wouldn't have an excuse. Of course, that backfires as MC now lacks money.
The girl pulls similar stunts multiple times, each alienating MC further, until, eventually, years after they graduated, the girl's father pays MC to marry the girl. Now, i think it was a LW story, but it turned out that FIL had been screwing his daughter, and he paid MC to marry her as a beard. MC found out, and when FIL tried to threaten him into silence, he pulled the scene you described.
