The House of Representatives will attempt to elect a Speaker on January 3. Will Mike Johnson get enough votes, or will the Free-Dumb Caucus prevent that?

And if the House can’t elect a Speaker by January 6th, what impact does it have on counting the electoral college votes?

Roll Call has a detailed explanation

Of course, if Johnson cannot muster enough votes, another Republican would have to be willing to deal with a fractious conference and a mercurial Trump.
“Anybody who wants it,” California Republican Rep. Tom McClintock said Sunday on NewsNation, “obviously isn’t in his right mind.”

😆

I do not know who will be Speaker.
But I will go on the record to say that I am 100% positive that the last 2 years of Americans suffering through a do-nothing and ineffective House has officially ended. With Repubs in charge, I know that more bills and laws will be passed. Will these laws be to the benefit of the people who voted for the republicans party to help? Hmmmmmm. I suspect tax cuts across the board will immediately come to the American taxpayer with sunset clauses included for those making under 500k. Then will come the needed tax raises to the middle class once the tariffs kick in and the economy tanks.

Johnson is at least an unobjectionable least common denominator. Wonder bread. The Pat Sajak of Congress.

The election of a Speaker for the House of Clowns is tomorrow! Will the Republican Clowns vote for Johnson? Or will the FreeDumb Caucus cause havoc simply to get attention for themselves?

If everyone votes for somebody, Johnson can only lose one Republican. If three Republicans vote present, Johnson could still survive, but a fourth present vote would trigger a loss.

Already, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is a firm no, giving Johnson no wiggle room whatsoever. Others are undecided, including Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and Freedom Caucus chair Andy Harris (R-MD). Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN), a wild card who has said she won’t caucus with Republicans in the next Congress, delivered a list of demandsfor her vote involving federal spending. All of these members except for Harris voted against Johnson in May.

Congress Has the Opportunity to Do the Funniest Thing Ever

Johnson is a little man with a little mind and has turned into a glove puppet with Trump's hand so far up his rear that he's now merely mouthing Trump's words.

He's already lost 1 vote and can only lose 1 more so nothing is etched in stone, even with the orange menace support

I can see Johnson's departure now; a noose displayed by a crowd chanting 'Hang Mike Johnson' whilst he's hustled away to a secure area by Capitol Police.

That's the time-honored method of changing the Speaker nowadays.
