DOJ never charged him for anything, the Ethics panel investigation hasn't been released and Gaetz's is out of politics. What's your point. At least Matt didn't steal luggage from airports or hide gold bars in his closet. It's not like Biden's picks all met the gold standard.

Paying for sex with a minor is a serious crime. It’s appalling that Biden’s DOJ hasn’t prosecuted Gaetz. Apparently they’ve been too busy working on securing clemency for 37 convicted killers on death row.

I agree that Trump made a terrible decision to nominate Gaetz as AG and am glad that was derailed. It’s weird that Biden’s DOJ didn’t prosecute Gaetz. It’s also weird that Biden (or whoever is running things at the White House these days) made the decision to commute the sentences of 37 killers on death row but excluded 3 other prisoners from clemency.

The DOJ investigation began in 2020 under AG Barr but the decision to not prosecute Gaetz wasn’t reached until September of 2022. It’s weird that Garland chose not to prosecute.

It was a House ethics investigation which resulted in state crimes being discovered.

Typically prosecutors investigate first, then make the decision to prosecute after the evidence has been gathered and assessed. In this situation, Barr initiated a DOJ investigation that continued under Garland. The DOJ made its decision not to prosecute in September, 2022.

I'm not defending anything he has done, but nothing has an opportunity from this committee to make its way to the DoJ. And the investigation from the DoJ which was closed may have focused on something different and not had as much information.

I agree, why they didn't prosecute is beyond me. Something changed their minds. Interesting situation with Desantis not charging under Florida law. I predicted Gaetz wouldn't make the cut and I'm glad he didn't. He was always a sleazebag in my eyes. His bullshit with the speaker and congress really pissed me off.

There is no defense for Gaetz. I have no idea why Trump thought he was a good pick but I'm sure he's happy that he bowed out. Pam Bondi is soooo much better a pick.
