Chinese EV makers can't sell here, but they are outpacing US and other automakers. (China is also building a ton of nuclear plants, btw)

Will they ever break through into the US market? Will our government let them?

Is the U.S. market even going to matter any more? China will sell its products in every country touched by the Belt and Road system. They'll have the whole Eastern Hemisphere sewn up.

That's part of my intrigue into the subject. With Chinese cars flooding other markets, are US buyers going to start increasing demand here? Videos like the one I posted keep popping up.

I would certainly explore a $30k EV if it were offered.

I would consider purchasing a brand new $25K to $30K, made in China EV for around town use but I don’t foresee that possibility arising anytime soon. The Trump-Biden tariffs on China manufactured EVs are definitely not going to be loosened up.

And Europe’s automotive manufacturing industry is struggling so it’s unlikely Chinese companies like BYD will be flooding the EU with cheap cars. Chinese manufacturers reached an 11% market share in Europe this year, but a chunk of that is attributed to a rush to buy their products before new EU tariffs set in.

They are not going to be allowed to subsidize their way into major market share.

Yah, I'm probably having a bit of wishful thinking...nothing to do with supporting the CCP and instead I just want one of their EVs.

How much demand would be needed to overcome tariffs? With 47, is that even possible?

Yah, with enough oligarchal support, anything is possible.

I think Boomer's points are accurate.
It’s also worth noting that Trump doesn’t believe EVs will save the planet. He’d like to eliminate the EV tax credit and freeze future subsidies to domestic EV manufacturers that were part of the Inflation Reduction Act.

Good moves.

Government should not pick and choose winers because it bets with our money.
When they lose, they just pass it on and then they are winners...

Oddly enough Musk supports that.

I don't think there is enough focus from him there that would see this to fruition... Not sexy enough.

And I also wonder how much influence Elon might have to stop it.

I'm more concerned with building nuclear power plants. The markets will correct themselves. IMHO
