nude beach

Somebody on another forum pointed out that two hundred years ago, every beach in Hawai'i was a nude beach.
Interesting, I've been told that nudity is heavily frowned upon in Hawai'i "Due to the Hawaiins being very religious" so is this due to a more restrictive Christianity?

Yup. Before the missionaries came, their religion didn't have a problem with nude bathing. From what I gather, they didn't forsake clothes altogether, because clothing was used to denote availability and social status, much like current Western thought. But at the beach, nudity was normal. Mark Twain remarked on it, as did other writers.

Same in the Cook Islands, now very religious and nudity frowned upon but apparently pre-christianity very relaxed.

Yes and yes.
Religion has so much to answer for in this pathetic world.
Just look at the continual outbursts of condemnation of nothing, hypocrisy and crimes worse than they accuse others of!

I love to drop every thread of clothing at nude beaches. It feels so liberating. Most of my experience is in France, and around here most nude beaches are well-known tolerated nudist areas vs. official. In fact, many of them are in full view of coastal trails that are often full of hikers, especially during the summer holiday season.
