Jaguar - Another Iconic Brand Consigned to the Dustheap of Woke Fuckups

The EV seems a contrivance which was rushed to production to be Everycar.

And it just ain't.

Around town? Maybe.

Who the fuck wants to live around town???

A whooping 1.6% of the popular vote. (Math is hard)
The popular vote doesn't mean anything in a Presidential election but he received 2.5 million more of it than Harris did. It was an electoral landslide Trump 312 to Harris' 226. (Facts are hard)

Here's another look at the Callum Jaguar Mk11 - this was very much what I was thinking when I said something about a modern redesign and rebuild

The idea was to make a car that was usable everyday without becoming too modern or losing its character. The Mk2 has a heavily reworked version of a period straight-six engine, now displacing 4.3-liters and tuned to deliver torque. It drives through a modern five-speed manual transmission and delivers power through a revised rear axle of sufficiently novel design that CMC has patented parts of it. The steering is now assisted through a column-mounted electric motor and there’s a modern Clarion audio system (with rearview camera), but otherwise the driving experience is still closer to 1964 than 2014.

The external modifications were where most of the effort was expended. “I always wanted to take the bumpers off a Mk2,” Callum explains, “but you can’t—there’s nothing underneath them.” So new composite bumpers, inspired by period touring-car racers, were designed. The arches have been extended to cover the car’s wider track, too. At the front that meant new fenders, shaped from metal and incorporating cooling louvres. Most chrome and brightwork has gone, and Callum admits he even considered losing the guttering above the doors. “It’s too much, though, and that’s where the welded seam for the roof is.” The ride height has been lowered by 1.2 inches, the wheels are 17-inch split-rim pieces, and the car has a fully redesigned suspension with adjustable dampers and firmer springs.

Now if they just did a new version of the Mk11 like this one.....

Jag should be concentrating on building reliable cars instead of assembling parts into a car-shaped-object and then worrying about how to avoid warranty issues.

I think most people today aren't interested in the electronic geegaws that you can get in your everyday Honda or Toyota. Instead they're looking for styling and panache. Something you can't get in your everyday Honda or Toyota.

IMO it's why classics are priced higher than modern cars. Less crap, fewer things to break, and more style.

Personally, if it weren't for Bentley or RR, I'd consider buying a Jag XF to replace my current car.

The problem with the Jag is the hit & miss electronics AND there's a coolant crossover tube behind the engine that will eventually break. Which will necessitate engine removal to repair. BTW, did I mention that the engine goes in from underneath? Yeah, no wonder they're so cheap to buy. No one wants a $10,000 coolant leak repair bill.

Insurance cost is also a problem but since I'm looking at a luxury level car, it's kind of a built in expense.

I want one of these:

But will settle for one of these:

Or this if I have to:

Well, tomorrow is the day. Next stage in the transformation of Jaguar to be revealed at Miami Art Week on 2 December 2024, 20:00hrs (U.S. EST), including the debut of its Design Vision Concept.

Guess we'll see whether they have a chance of making it. Or not.....

Probably going to look like that EV Volkswagon bus - butt fucking ugly.

I wonder if anyone else has noticed the similarity between that and this;

And since Jaguar isn't owned by the Brits anymore, it won't be surprising to see it morph into yet another butt fucking ugly COPY (nothing) of the Smart Car.

Rebel5Soul (Scuse me, I get his screen names mixed up all the time) is going full on Brains N' Boobs here! Cool car pics!

They are, aren't they. Some of those old designs are iconic - modernize them and you give them a whole new lease of life - and they were so original too. VW Beetle. Mini Cooper. Jaguar Mk11 and E-type, the old MG's.....British car designers really were good. Just a shame the manufacturing processes weren't..... some of the old American cars too, altho very different styles.
