I love this image from the Alex Raymond comic strip. The setup: After being captured by cavemen, Flash is forced to hunt with them while Dale is left behind. When we last saw Dale, she was wearing a tattered but demure long green dress. A caveman laid claim to her. In this panel, Dale and Flash are reunited. Noting how she is dressed, Flash's expression is sutably miffed, and she obviously embarrassed, tries to hide herself. Raymond says so much with an expression and body language. There are so many places for the mind to go on this image alone.tumblr_n0t3wjybGf1sqf5tdo1_1280.jpgWhat happened to Dale's green dress? Did the caveman take it off her? Did she have to do something in exchange for the fur bikini? How long was she naked anyway and in front of whom? Can you think of any "Public Porn" in other media? DO share!

In the 1950s the 'bikini' emerged. Early bikinis looked like maybe the wearer was preparing for an arctic expedition. In 1964 the Gernreich 'topless' swimsuit was daring??? Back in the 1950s, what Dale Arden was wearing was considered 'daring.'

This image is from the 1930s! Alex Raymond was decades ahead of his time.

She was probably gang raped, the only acceptable outcome for the women portrayed in that era.

Or...this era as well.

My mind didn't go there! It did go a lot of other places. Dale, naked under a fur blanket while her green dress and underthings are shredded and fed into the communal fire, her caveman giving her the Raquel Welch "One Million Years B.C." duds in exchange for "something" probably oral at least for every article. Since her captor is a caveman, she, no doubt, has crabs now at a minimum.

Here's another one. Alex Raymond is the only man in history to get away with a strip search in a comic strip! THIS appeared in millions of Sunday papers and no one batted an eye!

Remember, scantily clad is still clad.

It's shooting fish in a barrel to point out that, however primitive her clothing, her hair and make-up always stay surprisingly on-point.

Alex Raymond loved the female form. Dale ended up in next to noting on a regular basis. She wore the first miniskirt in science fiction. Wilma Deering sometimes did in Buck Rogers, but she was supposed to be a flapper from the future. Flash Gordon is set in the current day of the 1930s at the time and Dale goes from stylish modern woman to half naked damsel in distress in record time. On more than one occasion she was strung up and flogged while topless. Minnie Mouse she ain’t,
