Tennessee state Rep. Gloria Johnson, a Democrat who shot to national fame after surviving a Republican-led expulsion effort for participating in a pro-gun control demonstration, on Tuesday formally announced that she's running for U.S. Senate.

Johnson, 61, is running for a seat currently held by Republican U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn, 71, who is seeking reelection in a state that has solely elected GOP statewide candidates for nearly two decades.

“It’s no surprise that radical socialist Gloria Johnson decided to jump into the race at the urging of liberals in Washington, joining Marquita Bradshaw and others in the race for the Democratic nomination," said Blackburn’s campaign spokesperson, Abigail Sigler. “State Rep. Johnson is as woke as they come, and she would be a puppet for Joe Biden, the Squad, and Chuck Schumer in the Senate.”

Blackburn later released a campaign video criticizing Johnson, saying that the Democrat was a “threat to our way of life" in Tennessee.

don't know how well she'll do, but i can hope :)

It's Tennessee, she'll fail spectacularly even with huge dark money campaign contributions from out of state.

And then we'll hear all about the stolen rigged election results...

I'll be surprised if she even gets 40%, but good for her for giving TN a choice to do the right thing at least.

As someone represented by Senator Blackburn I will relish voting for Rep. Johnson to replace her in the Senate in Washington.

alas you're not wrong, even if Mrs. Johnson raises more money from out of state than Senator Blackburn it won't matter if it doesn't translate to the only people who can vote for one of them, who unfortunately are mostly Republicans here in TN.

It can be really tough being a liberal in a deeply red state.

Blackburn will come out with a lot of culture war nonsense as she always does. I hope Mrs. Johnson campaigns on real progressive kitchen table issues that affect every Tennessean to combat that make sense to combat that. It's the only way I can see her unseating Blackburn.

Kitchen table issues like high inflation because of all the "free" money the Democrats want to give away? More crime because of "bail reform" laws? Social disruption by legislators who throw temper tantrums when they don't get their way when they try to FORCE people to accept things they don't want and refuse to approve?

Or perhaps you mean the lack of good paying jobs, sky high housing costs, highest interest rates in decades, insane illegal immigration with no end in sight, gay everything at the expense of normalcy, and the school teachers and administers trying to groom children while making criminals out of their parents for trying to protect their kids from groomers?

And let's talk about mask mandates that hurt social development in children, mandatory yet unnecessary shots with potentially deadly side effects, isolation, rejection, suicide, and confusion as a result of "emergency" orders when there's no emergency anymore.

Are those Democrat talking points and election platform planks the issues you're talking about?

Those aren't democrat talking points those are the Democrat talking points those like you on the right like you and sen. Blackburn use as strawman arguments against democrats.

But namely higher wages, combating the effect of inflation, and looking to do something about those skyrocketing home prices and rents.
