The Demise of Journalism

I can agree in part but now we have to account for the partisanship and the ideological Balkanization of media outlets. Radio, television, and the internet transformed media landscapes, allowing for targeted messaging and polarization. Media outlets cater to specific audiences, reinforcing existing beliefs and ideologies. The rise of partisan outlets intensifies ideological and social division that is fracturing the nation. As far as News reporting goes, we need to get back to the What, When, Why, and Where, rule and allow the people to draw their own conclusions.
I don't think that's possible, if indeed it ever were possible. Growing up with the "big three" newscasts, you had East Coast elites presenting the who, what, where with a decidedly neutral bias, to get ratings in the heartland of America. They gave America a slightly in-depth, just the facts, no lurid stuff.

That turned out to be NOT what America wanted. Hate radio came into being, and it turns out Red America really does like hyperpatriotic tabloid trash. Rupert Murdoch made a billion dollars getting there first. Reality TV suckered America, first with Cops Bad Boys Watcha Gonna Do, then Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous paved the way for Trump worship.

America devolved into a caricature.

Speaking of which, didja see the Golden Bachelor filed for divorce from his bride of three months?

Actually, President Kennedy waged war against conservative radio long before Fox, Rupert Murdoch, or Rush Limbaugh became major public players:

How JFK Censored Right‐Wing Radio

Conservative radio was American radio all across the fruited plain, the precise reason why the Democrats in the government invented NPR and PBS to subvert it. The Fox success story began as an alternative to what at that time was the complete domination by a monolithic liberal monopoly of the US Television airwaves. Fox became an alternative voice to the identical drone of the three major networks who were perceived by millions to be joined at the hip. The same millions who then switched to Fox and took the network to the top of the viewer charts.

The Apprentice was a popular TV program that no doubt boosted Trump's public visibility and popularity. I may have seen one or two episodes of that program. I was already familiar with his business success and I did become a supporter after he came down that escalator.

I'm in total agreement that America has become a caricature through the visual distortions of American life created in the entertainment industry that project the absurdities into every home and theater in America to those who take the time to view it.

I had to Google the "Golden Bachelor." I had no clue who that was. I've never seen the program. I'm more of a Substack, podcast subscriber, Youtube, Prime, and Netflix, kinda guy. I haven't tuned into Fox TV since it was taken over by what has been described as "a bunch of frightened women." I scan the news channels on YouTube and see Fox reports from time to time. Just saw one this morning on the failed Iranian attack on Israel.

Lincoln shut down 300 newspapers during the Civil War.

John Adams and Woodrow Wilson both took actions that impacted the press during their respective presidencies:
  1. John Adams:

  1. Woodrow Wilson:
    • During World War I, Wilson curtailed freedom of the press through a dual strategy of censorship and propaganda. He established the Committee on Public Information (CPI), which actively shaped press coverage to control public opinion. The CPI suppressed information and intimidated ethnic and socialist papers that opposed the war. Wilson’s actions constituted an unprecedented assault on press freedom34.
In summary, while Adams briefly shut down newspapers using the Alien and Sedition Acts, Wilson’s administration significantly impacted press freedom through censorship and propaganda during World War I.

Joe Biden is doing his best to reach new levels of censorship in America and stacking up one violation of the law and Constitution after another.
Censorship Joe is doing that as we speak? Shouldn't someone be doing something about that?

STUDY: At Least 90% of TV News Fails to Call Trump Prosecutors ‘Democrats’

Barring a last-minute hiccup, today a Democratic prosecutor — Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg — will begin his unprecedented criminal trial of former President Donald Trump, the Republican Party’s certain presidential nominee in November’s general election.

Despite the obvious political implications of such a prosecution, a new study of ABC, CBS and NBC evening news coverage shows at least 90% of their coverage failed to inform viewers that Bragg and the other elected Democrats going after Trump are “Democrats.” It’s as if the networks prefer to disingenuously portray the indictments and civil lawsuits as the work of nonpartisan career prosecutors, rather than as partisan attempts to use the court system to hobble the electoral prospects of the country’s top Republican.

For this study, our analysts reviewed all broadcast evening news coverage from January 1, 2023 through April 10, 2024. Here’s a rundown of how the networks are failing to adequately disclose the partisanship of the three elected Democrats prosecuting Trump: Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg; Fulton County (Georgia) District Attorney Fani Willis; and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Another harbinger of the decline of the press and its commitment to the unbiased and unvarnished truth.
