On a House Freedom Caucus call Monday night, Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., floated using the motion to vacate, a rule that would allow any member of Congress to force a vote to remove the speaker, two sources familiar with the call told NBC News. Buck, speaking toward the end of the call, referred to it as the “elephant in the room,” one source said.

After House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry, R-Pa., suggested it might be too early for such a drastic threat, Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., proposed using the threat to force McCarthy to allow members to amend the bill on the House floor, under an "open rule" that could stall the bill's passage. Perry responded that they would discuss the issue more when members return to Washington after the long weekend.

Nothing is sweeter than watching Republican nut jobs tear their own party apart.

🍿

And it hasn’t even begun to get as ugly as it eventually will.

The record 15 votes it took to elect Weaker mccarthy was a portent of the future.

I’m currently feeling about 50/50 that the budget will actually be signed into law before June 5th due to the potential for some last minute right wing grandstanding.

And can you envision what an absolute shitshow the “republican” primary debates are going to be???

JFC

SAD!!!

It only takes one motion to "vacate the chair" to start the voting process of removing a Speaker. Which was the historical standing procedure until Nancy Pelosi became Speaker.

McCarthy won't make it to 2024.

Democrats should look around at the possibilities under a McCarthy recall. It just might be a case of bolstering him with the necessary Democratic votes to prevent the situation from not getting worse. And, yes, of course, reminding him of who owns him now.

What has happened to the Glorious Seven-Point Plan, to make Donald Trump the Speaker of the House, then impeach and remove Biden and Harris, and make him President again?

There are, I believe, about 15 Republican incumbents from districts Biden carried. If they want to stay in office...

The D's should help McCarthy to get the deal voted through. That would prove how much they own him and he will be permanently weakened.

Incidentally, I was not keen to see Biden running again, but it is undeniable that he and his administration have completely thrashed the R's on this issue.

By the rules they passed, I thought they required 7 days to read now. ?
i don't know about that. perhaps with the time-limits imposed by the looming deadline, there are regulatory exceptions?

There is an opportunity here to breakdown the purely partisan R/D divide.

The narrow margins for majority only give power to the extremes if there is no bipartisanship in the decision making process.

The freedom caucus will be rendered impotent if they can’t force the slim GOP majority to bend to their will, hopefully their constituents will seek more effective representation.

Oooppsss ....

Will the debt ceiling deal actually increase SNAP food stamp eligibility, cost?

The nonpartisan CBO estimated the provisions relating to SNAP would add $2.1 billion in direct spending and 78,000 people would gain benefits in an average month.

BRETT ARENDS'S ROI
If there were no tax cheats in America, there would be no Social Security crisis. Benefits could be paid, and payroll taxes kept the same, for the next 75 years. That’s not me talking. That’s math. It comes from the number crunchers at the Social Security Administration and the Internal Revenue Service.

The Congressional Budget Office calculated that the extra funding for the IRS would have reduced the deficit, because it would more than pay for itself. But this augmented IRS funding now been cut by an estimated $21 billion out of its budgeted $80 billion over a 10-year span

Dumbest thing in the world that a majority in the Senate isn’t a ruling majority!! The ruling minority of smallish states wins the day

Just like the Founders envisioned!!

Republicans already have an stupendous advantage over Democrats by having two right wing nut bag senators from states with smaller populations than Los Angeles or New York. What do the surrender monkey Democrats do to alleviate the problem? Give them even more power with this made up filibuster bullshit. That's no accident. They want to lose. Being Republican's little bitch is all they can manage to accomplish.

Nice idea, but you're ignoring the fact that for the Republicans, the extremists are very much in the driver's seat - indeed, they're nearly the entire caucus at this point. And they don't want bipartisanship or compromise.

There was no rumor - members of the freedom caucus were making public statements threatening to take the action to remove him.
Ok. Predictions and speculation. You still think he’s gonna be booted by the end of the year?

Yes.

Again, what happened was members of his party were actively discussing taking action against him. That's neither prediction or speculation.

Discussing whether they will follow through with those discussions by actually taking action is prediction and speculation.
