Some time ago (80's, 90'?) Townsend announced that he could no longer "windmill" his guitar due to arthritis in his shoulder.
Instead of dying before he got old, he lived long enough for something (a new pharmaceutical perhaps) to relieve his condition, because when I saw The Who in 2019, he had his mojo back in full swing as it were.
The hippies weren't right about everything.
