cannot edit profile or log out

irony

You know what is really ironic? Someone at Literotica is watching the posts,
and will not hesitate to jump in and delete a comment that is inappropriate,
delete an entire thread that seems to go against the rules, or simply close
a thread because it has become too long.

But no one seems to be paying attention to a long-standing plea to fix
the site so that we can do something as simple as edit our profiles.

Maybe if someone makes an inappropriate comment in here (I remember
when I was 13 years old .....) , someone at Literotica will see it, read the
rest of the thread, and fix it so that we can actually edit our profiles.

I would gladly make an inappropriate comment myself, but I am afraid
that it will be deleted by the mysterious thread-watcher, and therefore
that the problem will never be fixed.

Totally frustrating,
Sam

I heard they upgraded the site once and profiles didn’t work after that.

I believe it’s a much more complicated thing than your thinking of.

Lines and lines of code.

Not just that, but it was causing database issues whenever anyone tried. That is why it was disabled. It was causing problems with the important part of the site — the story side.

Whether folks like it or not, the forum is the least important part of the site. Only a tiny fraction of the site visitors ever come here. It's going to have the lowest priority for upgrading, so profiles will probably be down until absolutely everything else is in compliance with Google's demands for responsive site design, in order to maintain Google rating, and thus traffic.

Website editprofile problem

That's bollocks about "lines of code"!
Nobody writes these websites manually any more. It's all doe with website authoring tools.
The problem is that the hyperlink from the "Edit Profile" text points to the change password page even if you type in the correct URL. All they have to do is remove the text and therefore the incorrect link. At least it wont frustrate the users if it's not an option.

Peace

It was redirected because editing your profile through the forum was causing database issues after one of the major infrastructure updates.

That is where the difficulty arises. It's not a matter of simply redirecting the link back to the edit profile page. The edit page for the forum was still working, it was just causing a cascade of problems whenever anyone used it.

The old code that linked the story side and forum profiles simply doesn't work in the new site infrastructure. If it was a quick fix, it would have been sorted out when the problem first happened years ago, and Manu explained what had happened.

More than likely, it will be coded anew from the ground up in the updated forum software whenever that rolls out. Doing that now is like putting up a new chandelier in a condemned house. This version of the forum software is on its way to the scrapyard once the rest of the site is updated.

I think the forum may not exist once everything for Lit is upgraded as the forum is like the perv uncle at family reunions that no one wants to deal with.

I know nothing about computer programming or about creating websites.

What I do know is that someone has created this website which purports
to do everything that we can imagine, including the creation of profiles,
the creation of dozens of specialty discussion rooms, and the ability to
submit tens of thousands of very long stories in dozens of categories,
all of which are sortable by tags. In addition, we have the ability to click
on any posting to send private messages back and forth, and the additional
ability for us to store these messages. All of these features must be much
more technically sophisticated than just setting up the ability to edit our profiles.

Even with dozens of different discussion rooms, for a total of thousands
of different discussion forums with tens of thousands of individual postings,
someone is monitoring all of the postings to ensure that they are appropriate,
and to delete them (or even the entire thread) if they are not. I am sure that
they have monitored this forum at least a few times, too.

Therefore, what would be so difficult about the site manager posting into
one of the main info forums to let us know that they are aware of the
problem, that they are going to fix it by a certain date, or else that they
have decided to discontinue the profiles?

So, forum monitor, if you read this, please respond and let us know what
is going on. The members are anxious to be able to use this feature again.

It's all about communications, people.
