"Semen in coffee cups at work" is grotesque. "My husband loves someone else" is sad. Child abuse is both grotesque and sad . We may have already stepped into the Serious Topics Zone and can't unring the bell.

It's like the WKRP episode when Jennifer had a call-in show. She gave flip, off-the-cuff answers to questions until a female caller was battered. Jennifer's answer was to quit.

The readership is here with eyes open. No one forces the confessions from anyone else. It seems we, readers and secret sharers and Neruda, have made a social contract with each other. We're something of an open-ended non-directional unofficial therapy group. We're all grown-ups. We choose to be here. Speaking for myself, and I know I am unanimous in this, if I can't take the heat then I'll get out.

I am prepared to read whatever secrets any person wishes to share. My squick is my problem. I hope I am free to confess any secret I wish to bring up in good conscience. I trust my identity will not be revealed. Personal responsibility and trust are all I've got.

And no one owes me a penny for my thoughts. This one is on the house, no cover charge, no minimum drink order.

I think you bring up several good issues here. I'm not as worried about the legal issues. I'm much more concerned about what damage or good I am doing. If any.

I agree with RA, a grace period of 48 hours should be the minimum, this gives them that cool off period. This could be backed up by asking them if they want the post to go ahead.

Think its up to the reader if they want to read it or not, after all we are all adults and they may get a bit of comfort and support from listers replys.

There are no legal ramifications for these revelations, as you are not a mandated reporter (since I know your profession).

I agree with all of your concerns for the folks who are revealing such sad events. They must be handled with care. My concern, though, is also for you, friend. Hearing about sexual abuse is very upsetting and when one is not used to hearing such atrocities it slices to the soul. I think it is extremely important for those who have suffered abuse, to talk to a professional about it. There are many, many good, ethical, caring and empathetic therapists out there. I think we all have to remember, when sharing secrets with Neruda, that this website is in general, meant to be fun and pleasurable. We do have a wonderful, accepting, caring community here. Part of that is also taking into account that Neruda probably started this thread for us all to have some fun and be flies on the wall for some wild stories!

There's my two cents, offered with love, not criticism. :rose:
 
I agree there have been some crazy topics lately. But I'm not sure about the 48 hour wait. I've shared secrets here, and thought about it at length before I hit the submit button.

If someone feels they need to share their secret...there is another website that can do it all anonymously: cavecanum.com. I have posted stuff there also, and I read secrets there often.

I don't want this thread to disappear. It's one of my favs.
 
There is also postsecret.com or something of that spelling. For anon stuff of a not so porny nature.

Not so private secret
My son has a friend. Their senior year, this guy made several unsuccessful attempts at seeing me naked. I came home each day after work and went to my room, shut the door, and changed out of my work clothes. He tried his best to open the door and see me. Never gonna happen....

A couple of years later... They're 20s now... He came over to see my son who was "visiting" from out of town. I had just gotten out of the shower and was soaking wet. I heard the knock at the door and saw him through the decorative glass. I couldn't resist. I opened the door - in my bathrobe. He still hasn't seen me naked, but the look on his face was enough for me. I think we came to an understanding that day.

I don't have a secret to share but until the secrets start coming in I thought I'd share a story of my husband and I that I've shared on Lit before. Is that acceptable?

We were spending one night in a hotel and we wanted to take full advantage of being away. We had sex after we checked in and about 10 minutes later we heard the couple in the adjoining room going at it. It was faint but we could hear them and we laughed because I am not a quiet lover so we'd bet money that they heard me.

After dinner we had sex again and I wasn't at all holding back. I wanted them to hear us. Sure enough, 10 minutes later we heard our neighbors going at it again. This time they were louder and I could hear her laughing and say, "I hope they heard that."

It kept on until we checked out. W had sex I think 5 or 6 times while we were there and hearing the other couple made it so much more fun. One time we could hear spanking and her moaning really loud. It was so hot!

When hubs and I checked out I wrote a short note, "We hope that you had as much listening to us as we had listening to you guys. Enjoy the rest of your stay."

I join jen_litgirl in appreciation... however, a declaration of future secret sharing kinda sorta eliminates the a-nonny-mouse nature of the thread. It raises a banner which reads: Coming next, Jen's secrets! There's only one way to restore nameless secrecy. I saw it in a movie once.

"No, *I* am Spartacus!!"

Now everybody else join in and the thread will be filled with false-Jen confessions, burying her in the crowd, making her just as dead as the rest of us.
