You know, we share a lot of random stuff about us and our lifes, scattered all over the place. So, I thought it might be amusing, when some inclined regulars create AMA threads over time for all the stuff you always wanted to know about or from them, but didn't dare to ask (or because you didn't want to resort to PMs or derail the thread or...).

Of course, with the risk that nobody fucking cares and you end up with an empty thread - but no risk, no fun. And, as it would be weird if I create AMA threads about other people, I have to start with my own. Therefore, here it is.

And the very very very regular regulars with exceptional memory might remember that I had something like this already. But you can't change titles and AMA is now a well-established abbreviation (if you didn't discover the Internet just now), so I refrained from merely bumping the old thread.

And as AMA says, your questions are neither restricted to me as topic nor any topic at all - I just have to answer.

1. What, if anything, are you obsessed with?
2. What do you like to read? Favorite book?

(Also, if you’d rather bump the old thread, I can edit titles. Just let me know.)

1. What, if anything, are you obsessed with?

Obsessed. Hm.

I have some unusual pet peeves, one mentioned below. Then I have some (mild) addictions, like gaming. I'm passionate about food.

I can't come up with anything where I feel that the use of the word "obsessed" is justified.

2. What do you like to read? Favorite book?

I don't read much anymore. I haven't read a book from start to end since Terry Pratchett died. And 99% of books I purchase these days are about cooking.

I can't name a favorite book, but I will post some notable mentions.

Harold McGee's On Food and Cooking

Terry Pratchett's The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents

Giacomo Casanova's Story of My Life
(The book resulted in my pet peeve about soft (or hardcore) porn featuring the name Casanova. It's like reducing "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn" to "A teen painted a fence. End.".)

Oh, okay. Well, it's too late now anyway.

Does your avatar have a special meaning to you? Are you interested in the occult or is it just (very) cool artwork?

No, it has no special meaning. I just wanted to replace the previous one. But I guess it does say something about me, after all, I liked it enough to at least use it.

I do like most Tim Burton movies, too.

A terrible point in time to ask this question.

"Being financially well-off" is therefore my current answer.

I struggle to answer that question. There are things that I like but I don't know that overall that I'd say that I'm happy because there are always moments like I'm having right now where I just feel alone and empty.

You take no prisoners.

Loneliness.

Will you feel less lonely here?

I did, when I needed to connect but couldn't be out in the world. I didn't come here thinking I was lonely; I wanted distraction. Lit was a good thing.

Welcome back.

If you were starting life over and had to pick a completely different profession (...alternate lifestyle, stay-at-home partner, whatever), what would you like to explore?

Your question is along the line of:
"Will you feel less lonely here or rather not notice that you are lonely?" ?

I think it's actually feeling less lonely, because there are so many ways to find distraction, healthy and unhealthy ones, that there is no reason to choose Lit over something else if it would be just merely distraction.

I would likely live a miserable life as I love my current profession. There are some things I would optimize in a second playthrough, but that's it.

Well....maybe the profession of a cult leader. If 2020 continues like this and society crumbles, who knows if I need to start a new life for this.

Which programming language should I learn, if my main motivation to learn a programming language is just to exercise my brain a little? No weird answers like brainfuck, please.

I think the language in itself is not going to be the deciding factor, but the ability to get feedback of the exercise and where you can reach visible milestones and feel good about the exercise.

Swift if you have an iPhone, Kotlin if you have an Android phone and C# if you are a member of the PC master race.

The other answer would be:
Prolog

Because it's not a 3rd generation procedural language, but it's really about logical statements and elements and how to combine them to get the desired result. It's the one language that I really had trouble with because it's just a completely different way of thinking, where you are basically playing some kind of Meta-Sudoku to program.

Thanks!

My programming background is Turtle Roy, so Prolog sounds like a fun step up from that! :)

What is the fanciest thing you like to cook that looks like it was complicated but was actually easy to make?

What is the fanciest thing you like to cook that looks like it was complicated but was actually easy to make?

That one is difficult because it tends to end the opposite way for me - spending nerve-wracking hours in the kitchen for a dish that looks like it's just store-bought.

I once served guests cabbage turnip as side dish and while everyone agreed that it tasted aweseome, nobody wanted to believe me that it wasn't a store-bought side dish, because it was too perfectly cut in their opinion. I had spent a lot of time to make perfectly sliced sticks and discard every single one that I deemed not perfect enough, just to tarnish my reputation. This was a very valuable lesson for me.

Anyway, the final answer is:
Beef Rouladen

I've literally never thought to ask you these questions before, but now that there's this platform, I've had a beer (or three) and I'm waiting for the next round of the pub quiz to start... I mean, why not?

What's the thing you're the most proud of? Like a personal achievement.

Have you ever met any Litsters IRL? How many?

What was your first cell phone?

When have you last moved houses?

Are you still in touch with your best friend from high school?

What's your favorite color?

Do you remember that gold dress/blue dress thing? Gold or blue?

What's a language you wish you spoke?

Where did you last travel and what was the best thing you ate and experienced there?

Team Edward or team Jacob?

All of that sounds so delicious! I want to try the rouladen recipe. That still seems pretty involved in preparation though which makes me curious what do you enjoy making that is involved?

Most store bought things in my area are lacking so you wouldn't have that problem here. Then again, many ingredients aren't easy to find here either.

It does look complicated maybe, but it's really not much more than making a BLT sandwich, where you don't even have to render the bacon first, and then roll it. You don't even have to tie it like in the video, you can just use two toothpicks to hold everything together.

Then, you don't have to pay attention to it and like all braising recipes it's very forgiving. And finally, it can be frozen well. You can prepare more than you need and save time some other day.

I'm most proud of my 24-year-old self having the forethought and courage to give notice, start over and go back to school and then study and achieve the degree.

Have you ever met any Litsters IRL?

No.

What was your first cell phone?

I have no idea. Likely a Nokia.

When have you last moved houses?

2012

Are you still in touch with your best friend from high school?

No.

What's your favorite color?

It really depends. Clothes? Likely black or grey. My home office is a light blue, my bedroom white and dark red, my car also red.

Do you remember that gold dress/blue dress thing? Gold or blue?

Yes. Gold.

What's a language you wish you spoke?

Japanese and Turkish.

Where did you last travel and what was the best thing you ate and experienced there?

Côte d'Azur and..nothing. I wasn't in the mood to enjoy things.

Team Edward or team Jacob?

I'm my own team and drench this Bella whore with my cum while those two suckers have to watch. Oh, wait. Do I get the whole cast? Then I would rather do Anna Kendrick.

I'm going to have to try it!

I also loved all the questions Seela asked.

Where is a place you'd like to visit again?
Where would you like to live if you could live anywhere?
Do you have any pets (not the people kind) but like fish, birds, dogs, days, etc?
Do you like to collect anything?
What is something people are surprised to learn about you?
