Across the board in the hockey ops masthead of seven Canadian teams, one will come across: A quantitative analyst; an international crossover scout; a digital content manager; a lead performance dietitian; a consulting neuropsychologist; a head of guest experience; and a director of people and culture.

Nowhere will you find what the Canucks, Jets, Oilers, Flames, Senators, Maple Leafs and Habs really cry out for today: a shaman, an exorcist or a defence against the dark arts teacher. Someone able to lift a 30-year Stanley Cup hex. We’re about to head into the fourth decade without one to celebrate on this side of the border, birthplace of the sport and ancestral home of the trophy.

Since Montreal last won in 1993, the Cup has not come “home” despite the Canadiens, along with every team except Toronto and Winnipeg, reaching the final series at least once.
