pie

deep dish apple pie
nestled in green and white glazed dish
heirloom apples just picked
from the old tree on P Street
tartly sweet and firm
sliced thin and layered
brown sugar and cinnamon
a lovely slurry of fresh sweetness

Aunt Virginia’s pie crust recipe
don’t forget to use ice cold water
just five Tablespoons
cutting the dough by hand
until mixed and ready
gramma’s walnut rolling pin
shapes the crust
until it is lifted
onto the ceramic plate
filled with apples to overflowing
strips of dough applied
one by one
woven in and out
creating a lovely lattice

preheated oven awaits
the scent of baked apples
permeates the kitchen
as mouth waters
the too hot to touch plate
pulled out at the ding

filling bubbling
between the golden weave
too hot to eat
and yet…
generous slices cut
as the filling collapses
into a sweet sticky puddle
topped with Wisconsin cheddar
and french vanilla ice-cream
deep dish apple pie

Drifting in and out of sleep
A wisp of dream
Gossamer caress
Slides through my hands
A shadow cast
My minds eye sees
Or does it feel
I can't tell which
She whispers
"Perhaps it is both"

Perhaps, what?
Did someone speak
Or was it the night wind
In the faint silvery glow
Of a quiet crescent moon
Where the great owl
Hunts tonight
His voice a penance
Or regret for dreams unsung
Fitfully I sleep

Reaching blindly
She must be there
Faintly confused
By half hearted presence
She is here and she is not
With her gossamer dreams
Of hearth and home
Does she believe anymore
Do I
Dreams drifting into the night

Again, the phone rings
an unexpected caller
breath held
bracing

Hang up
go back to paying bills
tending to the must-dos
because life goes on

for the rest of us

The clicks that move money
from one place to another
some strange comfort
for the end of a brutal month

April showered us in tears

gkhm - 27

We are made of moments,
sweet as the cream and sugar
smooth upon my tongue.
Filling all of my senses,
full of flavour and zing
no bitterness but sharp,
like your favourite
Key lime pie.

Aprilyn 2:14

Make me a pie darling, he said hopefully… your homemade pumpkin pie?

Fingers stroke and ruffle
glossy fur
ears attuned, anticipating
a rumble of pleasure
that begins softly, steadily
rises in volume
limbs uncurl and stretch
muscles ripple in response
to the petting hand
and whispered promises
of warm milk

gkhm - 28

Summer has decided she came out far too early
and has slipped behind loitering thunderclouds,
who being nudged from behind, are wetly retaliating.

Raining onto plants, who with no chance of retaliating,
hang their heads asking "Why wake us up this early,
when it's cold with a likely chance of thunderclouds?"

But sunshine has the strength to chase thunderclouds
filtering through any unclouded gaps, thus retaliating,
producing rainbows, hooped across the sky, never early.

Although early now, with thunderclouds,
soon Summer will be back retaliating.

You promised to me meet
Beneath the tree in the park
Warm kisses, fingers entwined
Whispering together ‘til dark

You asked to meet at the train
Packing my bag, I was nearly late
You strode upon the platform
And met me at the station gate

A coffee date you set for us
a café with a view
Sweet croissants and hot mugs
Laughing quietly with you

We settled on a movie
I met you at the door
Tickets and popcorn too
Kisses and teases promise more

I have waited for you all my days
Praying you would join me here
Someday has blessed us now
Love completes us both, my dear

1-15

Mounted on the bed
On her hands and knees
Naked and trembling
Exposed and vulnerable
Her long hair drapes
Forward, covering her face
Waiting endlessly
Patiently adoringly
Vision only what he allows
Bound by her love

Stiff brush bristles scrape
Lightly across her bottom
Lightly up the long length
Of her back to her scalp
Reaching her full masses
Hair thick and straight
Burnished bronze with red
Blacks browns and golds
Her hair a fine blend of hue
One long stroke through
Scalp to tips
Shivering in ecstasy
One long stroke after another
There is only the brush
His touch. her pleasure
Lost into the night
Exquisite, divine

4-12

Two funerals
three days
May flowers
are mourning
and I'm holding my breath
lungs burning
for fresh air
the exhale of ritual

Solace found in soil
dirty hands
green plants
my garden waits
and will welcome me
after

gkhm - 29

Your poetic words of love
reach out across the ocean,
until I feel I'm inside your embrace,
and you're inside of me
holding me close,
joined and moving to the rhythm
all lovers know, denied to us,
yet there in your voice
urging me on I find ecstasy
and I am fulfilled.

Py-rotechnics

New year’s eve kisses at midnight
lit by the exploding Needle
Reflected in Lake Union
Sparkling colors in the sky
Green and blue and red and yellow
Until smoke obscures

We whisper
Promises of adventure
Eager for what’s next
Heat thrumming through
the January cold

Spring turns to summer
Hot sunny days in July
Cicadas whine
Bikes and trikes festooned
Red white and blue
Patriotic strains
And bar-b-que
Kids frolic in the grass

As darkness falls bright lights explode
Starbursts, hearts, shimmering cascades
Thigh to thigh,
Arms wrapped ‘round
Your body cradles mine
Staring into the night sky
Pyrotechnics galore
Ohhs, ahhs and sighs
For this Chinese gift
On a summer’s night

Cold Comfort

You are always just a thought away, no matter how far out of reach

gkhm - 30 Hooray!!

Acrostic......... reading..... My Secret Love

Masterful, your needs gain my obedience in
Your bed, requests told once, eagerly given,

Sweet sensual kisses across the skin,
Every touch draws orgasmic responses.
Caresses where I've never known before,
Responding reactions that his experience
Expects, draws excitement through my body
Taking me to another plane, another life.

Loving you goes way beyond this universe,
Out beyond the mundane, call and I will follow.
Vermilion hot with desire, your beautiful face
Every part of you. I love, I love, I love you.

4-14

Listened to the stories
learned more about you
than our time together allowed

You were more
than you ever knew
many hearts hold you near

If there is peace
I hope you've found it
ours will take time to find

Tide of Passion

She is the tide of passion
arching like a cat on stretch
nuzzling her pussy
close to bearded scruff
seeking soft lips
inhaling salty sea scent
like rocky coastal tide pools
crouch down to taste the salt
caress her secret starfish
running fingers ‘round the rim
as she opens and shuts
tempting erotically
like an anemone
her ebbs and floods
refill each day
with tides of longing

1-17

Sleeping in this morning
Entwining legs and arms
Cardinal songs in the trees
Sun rays through the blinds
Warmth and total relaxation
Dreams drift in and out
Revealing a tidepool of wonder
How I wish I could remember
I don't want want to waken
Today will be just fine without me

Aprilyn 2:18

flagstones

Lavender flagstone
pages on palettes
Sheets of stone puzzle together
Atop a sandy bed
Agates tucked in cracks
red and white droplets
Puppy pouts
overlooking
Where once was grass

1-18

Blue Jays against the sky
Robin red breast catches my eye
Tiny sparrows busy with need
Cardinals song red and freed
Redtailed hawk hunting prey
Crows will cackle when they play
Vultures scavenge grow so large
Herons fishing behind the barge
Grackles flock and unpleasantly
Chickens peck and cry defensively
Woodpeckers knock on wood
Owls hunt at night when it is good
These are some birds I see in any weather
Here out in Texas lets see them together

Aprilyn 2:19

tincture of time

so many complaints
achy back, unhappy tummy,
dis-ease of all kinds
Quietly I listen
taking it in,
asking questions
probing the history
or alarming presentation

in the end
a sympathetic ear
genuine kindness
and a prescription
"tincture of time"
meets the need
better than any test
or pharmaceutical

1-19

Fences and walls
Barricades and palisades
Keep them out
And keep them in
All will pay
For your insane barbican
The only winner is you
Just how you want
We see through the lies
The deceptions
Your selfish derangement
Not this time
Despite your hate
History has taught us
We have learned
We have evolved
Yours is the last gasp
Of desperate fear
We will not suffer fools
And your hypocrisy

Unprepared for the possibility
reality, fallout
of us
the sticky stuff that attached to skin
when the bubble burst
and sunk in
refusing to be washed away
