Never mind that kids have gay parents, gay siblings, gay friends. Never mind that kids see gay people in the media all the time or read about them in literature. Never mind that gay rights is currently the most important struggle for civil rights in America. Never mind that we have gays in the military and allow gay marriage in some places.

Never mind that a significant number of students themselves are gay.

So in case any of you right wingers out there forget why normal people loathe your philosophy and decry it as out-of-touch, immoral demagoguery, please refer back to this thread.

The legislation was amended from the original version, which said no elementary or middle schools will "provide any instruction or material that discusses sexual orientation other than heterosexuality." Republican Senate sponsor Stacey Campfield of Knoxville said some of his colleagues were uncomfortable with that language.
"There's more than one way to skin a cat," Campfield said after the vote. "I got what I wanted."
He said the language is appropriate because "homosexuals don't naturally reproduce," and he said it's necessary because the state's curriculum is unclear on what can be taught.

If "homosexuals don't naturally reproduce", from where do they come?

My wife's best friend is married to another woman. She's pregnant after artificial insemination.

Conservatives: "See what we told you? It's not natural reproduction!"

Rational person: "99% of artificial insemination, in-vitro procedures, and other "unnatural" procedures are done on hetero couples. Should we not talk about that either, because it's immoral?"

Every gay person I know was born and raised by two heterosexual people of the opposite sex. If a heterosexual family is clearly insufficient for preventing homosexuality.

I always think, how tenuous is these guys' hold their heterosexuality that they think the mere mention of the word "gay" is enough to switch someone over?

Likewise it's been shown that kids raised by one or two gay parents are no more likely to be gay themselves than their peers.

You left out the important part ...

"in grades kindergarten through eight"

and

"is intended to give teachers clear guidance for dealing with younger children on a potentially explosive topic."

Why is it important to you that little kids understand sexual proclivities?

Because sexuality is an element of human existence at those ages. Because you can't teach sex ed without it unless you wish to teach it in an irresponsible, neglectful, incomplete way.

And because sexuality and homosexuality can come up in class in a variety of ways in school that have nothing to do with sex ed. Studying modern history? Well there you go.

You realize this topic is only "explosive" if you're fear-mongering, right?

I would be confused as to why any normal person would assume that the political views of one conservative (or liberal) would be the same as another conservative (or liberal) who obviously resided farther out on that particular political extremity -- by that, I don't mean YOU. I mean a "normal person."

Under the proposal, any instruction or materials at a public elementary or middle school would be limited to age-appropriate lessons about the science of human reproduction.

Obviously not everyone on the right believes the same things. But it's more than fair to say that the conservative movement in America stands for the suppression of gay rights in a wide range of ways. This is the result of electing conservatives to office. Be careful who you vote for.

Because it's there. Steve the school bus driver has a boyfriend.

Why is it so important to you that teachers must pretend he don't exist? Or actually have a vagina?

HAHAHAA!

Man! You guys are getting desperate!

Do you EVER have an original thought?

2 short paragraphs, and you can't even type them yourself.

So what's your point. Conservatives are re-writing their "don't acknowledge homosexuality" laws from one out-of-touch immoral things to another.
