Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course, untrimmed;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to Time thou grow'st.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
-- William Shakespeare

There's always a week or two of pretty good weather, but I wouldn't make any reservations until a few days before. It will be raining at some point.

Oh dear oh well it's one of those cheapo hols offered by my timeshare people and it's booked now. Mind you we went to Almeria on one of those and it rained so much the road outside turned into a river and Ron had to borrow wellington boots to get to the car! We still had fun though

You must live near me, that's our weather for the last month or so here in SC. At least the winters are mild.

Houston. I've noticed that there's been a north-south split in the weather lately.
Seemed to be cold in winter up north, while in the south it was mainly warm.
And the north has remained on the cool side for a while. Makes me wonder if the southern part of the North Atlantic will be hotter and we;ll have more hurricanes.
Are you near the coast or inland?

Maybe you'll get lucky. Is it around the 11th? That's St. Martin's Day, typically the first day when the new wine is mature enough to drink, and there are celebrations everywhere with roasted chestnuts. At around that time of the year, there's always a 1-2 week period of good weather, called St. Martin's Summer. It's a spell of sunny and warm days that comes after a cold, rainy period, and lots of folks do go down to the Algarve, since it's likely to be the last opportunity to do so before Spring.

That's handy we are there from the 12th sounds like great fun. We've never been to the Algarve before always been the Lisbon area where the cruise ships stop.

If one was to write a parody of the Willy Shakespeare what are the chances of being jumped on from a great height or hung from the neck until one is dead by the more discerning poets? and more to the point can I blame you?

My HQ is about 300 Km north of Lisbon. You should have lots of fun, though. The Algarve is very tourist-friendly.

Sure, I can take the heat. :p

I hate summer, so this should put an interesting twist on my poem.

I've written some but don't know if I dare submit it I know someone somewhere will punch me in the eye for it

I grew up in Illinois, I imagine its much like Pennsylvania - gets hot and humid, but not incessantly.
Of course, you might have your life tied to the academic calendar (at any level).

Saying around here is that we have 3 seasons: summer, July and August.
