Denmark is immediately a good place to live compared with other European countries for homosexuals. It's the conclusion from a new, large investigation of homophobia in Europe, who are today published in Brussels.

- Denmark is situated on the top. But even though we have been placed high, it mustn't become a pretext for doing nothing, because there still are problems with intolerance and hate-crimes, says Mandana Zarrehparvar, who is a head of department at the Institute of Human Rights to dr.dk/news.

Still discrimination
According to the investigation we accept in Denmark both homo-parades, and that homosexuals can adopt.

But in the marriage legislature and the immigration law the homosexual ones are still discriminated, just as the police not in sufficient degree registers hate-crimes against boxes and lesbian.

Behind the report The European Agency stands for fundamental human rights (FROM), which for the first time has tried to lay bare homophobia in the European countries.

- At first it looks as if, homosexuals have the same rights in Denmark, but they can still not be married off to the church. It's also much more difficult to be familied join with a partner by the same sexes than with one of opposite sexes, Mandana Zarrehparvar says.

Together with Cowi the institute has drawn up the report on everywhere of the EU agency. It also, shows that the police is still bad to register the so-called hate-crimes against boxes and lesbian, thus that ought to be more closely looked at, thinks Mandana Zarrehparvar.

Mostly intolerance in Romania
The background to the investigation is that the intolerance in relation to sexual minorities is rising in the EU both among politicians and religious leaders in e.g. Italy and Poland.

According to the report Denmark is together with Sweden and the Netherlands the most tolerant countries in relation to boxes and lesbian, while Romania is situated at bottom.

But even though Denmark is a good place for sexual minorities, we must still be aware of the discrimination that exists because of prejudices, Mandana Zarrehparvar thinks.

- A discrimination, which maybe is much more hidden than other places, for instance at workplaces and in the night life, the head of department says.
