So proud of you, Australia

That was honestly a really nice story.

I kind of wish that practice would catch on, though. Wearing religious coverings is so dangerous.

Why it matters. This hashtag movement is powerful sign that Australians won't get worked up into a Islamophobic rage because of the actions of a single madman. It's also a lesson for countries like the U.S., where hate crimes against Muslims spike whenever there's a criminal or terrorist incident involving Muslims, or even when something innocuous happens like debating the placement of a mosque in New York City. Australian social media users are showing Muslims they're safe in their home and shouldn't fear retaliation for an incident they're not linked to.

Holy shit. I wish the backwards half of this country that is so balls deep in racist, rabid xenophobic fuckery against anything Arabic/Muslim/Islamic could be like this.

Good on your home team, BG.

Yes, the US needs to do this!

I don't know where you are BG, but lots of big cities have dim sum.

Not Dim Sum, we have a few places that do shitty dim sum here, but Dim Sims. They're a pretty uniquely aussie thing, I think. Little parcels of mystery meat. You get them at fish and chips shops, or any take out place really. Those little kiosks at the train station... God, and potato cakes. Fried greasy goodness. I NEED IT

agreed. really wish the world as a whole could be more aware and understanding.

These guys had a great feed on the situation:

@PzFeed

Plus there feed in general is really great.

The idea caught on so quickly in midst of the siege. Makes me very proud to be Aussie.

Where are you BG, I'll send you a dim sim. Maybe two.

I had no idea what Dim Sim is. Looks like the same thing that the Chinese do in America. Cook for American bland palates. Chop Suey is not remotely Chinese, nor are fortune cookies but they are offered in Chinese restaurants in America.

If you want to see actual Chinese food show up around 2-3 in the afternoon when the staff is eating, family style.

Yes, the US needs to do this!

there is a HISTORY in the US of anti Muslim attacks AFTER they TERRORIZE US?

A dim sim is a Chinese-inspired meat or vegetable dumpling-style snack food, popular in Australia and to a lesser extent in New Zealand. The meat variety dish normally consists of small amounts of pork or lamb, cabbage and flavourings, encased in a wrapper similar to that of a traditional shumai dumpling. They are usually deep-fried, though can be served steamed. Vegetarian-style dim sim normally contains cabbage, carrot, vermicelli, or other vegetable fillings, along with spices. Dim sims differ from typical Chinese dumplings in that they are often much larger, have a thicker doughier skin and are shaped more robustly.[1] They are primarily sold in fish and chip shops, service stations, corner stores and some Chinese restaurants and takeaway outlets in Australia. Chinese Yum Cha wholesale outlets and Asian frozen food companies also commonly sell this snack frozen for home cooking. They can also be found at Chinese food outlets in New Zealand.

Chinese diners view dim sims as Westernized food, however many Australians see the snack as being primarily Chinese in nature, due to its origins in local Chinese restaurants. The term dim sim dates as far back as 1928,[2] although it is widely believed[citation needed] the modern recipe of the dish was developed in Melbourne's Chinatown in 1945 by chef William Wing Young (father of TV chef Elizabeth Chong) for his restaurant "Wing Lee".[1]

Like the Americanized Chinese dumpling, but with a thinner outside?

Johnny does love his dumplings. Steamed though, not fried.

Being Australian myself I was very glad to see that the illridewithyou social media drive. When I first heard about the sydney siege I was shocked as most were. Later I began to thought if it was a terriost and the guy being Muslim that alot of Australia's would begin violence and stupid racist acts to muslims. But overall our response was pretty good

when has there ever BEEN VIOLENCE towards Muslims after an attack in ANY WESTER COUNTRIES?

what the fuck are you talking about?

Well recently here in Australia I have noticed a lot of racism towards Muslims. As Australian I feel that kinda sad that we seem so racist and even today there is a lot of racism towards the aboriginal people to this land and are still treated like second citizens.

A thing I saw was a video of a guy outside the building where the siege was and he was shouting saying things like all muslims are terrorists and comparing them to Nazis and he went on and on. There are people in the country, be it a small amount that are ignorant and would believe what this guy said.

There has been in the UK.

And violence towards Muslims since 9/11? The West's death ratio of Muslims killed in Iraq and Afghanistan massively exceeds those killed on 9/11.

Muslims killing Muslims also exceeds Muslims killing Christians.
