Justice League: The New Wave (IC)

...Red Arrow slapped leather, hauling a Colt 1911 out of its holster and firing to wound Green Arrow...

...Starfire's eyes blazed green and she launched double-fisted starbolts for Raven...

She’d be fucked later, but she did what she needed to do. What she had to do.

She teleported away from those starbolts, and in the way of a magical bullet that kept changing direction more than Kennedy’s Personal Death Bullet. Something was doing something to the Titans, and she hoped that this foolish foolish maneuver did the trick. Probably not. But she could only hope.

The timing was off. The bullet changing direction to much. She was hoping for an arm or a leg.

Instead she got a lung.

<Fuck me> she thought as pain bloomed like a burning flower. <Father just might get his early release>

Coughing she spit blood on to the ground as she landed, badly. Smearing her hand with bloody froth she rose to her feet, and slapped the already pissed off Hell Beast known as THE RIDER. “Give me Justice…” she weeped, sagging to her knees as the pain began to blur her vision.

...Red Arrow slapped leather, hauling a Colt 1911 out of its holster and firing to wound Green Arrow...

...Zatanna flung out a hand and bellowed at Ghost Rider-- "SOMUL SUTCNAS!" --bathing The Spirit of Vengeance in a halo of holy light...

Burning HOLY LIGHT of Truth washed over the Rider, A shield came up, blocking some – but not nearly enough – of The Light.

And the ground quake. Innocent Blood had been spilled. Celestial shook waves rippled from the point. A point that was only feet from where the Rider stood. And then it happened. The Blood of Innocence. The Blood of the Sacrificial Lamb seared into it’s face.

Tears of fire slipped from her eyes as The Rider wept.

“Vengeance is MINE!! Sayeth THE LORD!!” The Rider bellowed on a psychic level.

And it leaped, Chains of Damnation drilled downwards for Zatanna and her thrice cursed magics. But the Rider...

Oh the Rider was out for Vengeance.

Crashing into Red Arrow The Rider whispered.. “Look into my eyes and receive Judgment..”

...Terra willed chunks of The Loop's paving stones up from the ground and hurled them at Renegade...

“Well, fuck..” Renegade smirked. “Ever dance with the Devil?” Dealing with an Earth mover was rather easy actually. Rolling to the side, Renegade fired. Armor piercing projectiles meant to punch through Plate armor. Exosuits, chitinous shell plating. And Hulls. Pretty much what she wanted to use against aliens in space suits, or giant bugs. But fuck it. Luthor was footing the bill so the Earth bitch could pay the butcher fee.

And she fired, emptying the clip as bullet after armor piercing bullet tracked one after another drilling a hole through the rocks.

...Captain Marvel darted for Wondergirl, swinging hard for her face with a fist crackling with mystic, godly lightning...

...Solstice flared her light-aura to full power and speared an energy blast for Martian Manhuntress...

Mystic Godly lightening cracked and snapped into her face.

And she exploded as armor appeared around her. Similar to, but different than what Wonder Woman had worn before her. The armour from the Battle of the Bridge. Her left arm snapped out, fling the shield between Rose and Soltice, deflecting it onto Karan.

And her jaw felt like it was shattered, but the Solar Rays of Soltice soled that issue in a mighty infinite micro microt. Supercharged even as she reeled from the blow, Karan.. Wonder Girl.. gave Captain Marvel an a right uppercut. “To the Moon, Alice. To the Moon.”

Beams lashed from her eyes, Not focused enough to destroy, but tight enough to blind as she looked at Zatanna.

The Sandman was shocked when he saw the effect of the Fog. Few mortal beings had the power to overcome the Fog of Dreams so completely, so quickly. But it gave him answers that he didn't have before. Mind control, of one sort or another was not something he had written off, but now he had confirmation.

There was a time, when Eddie first arrived in The Dreaming, when he would have just started fighting. Doing whatever it took to win. But not now. He had spent the last several decades learning from some of the best The Dreaming had to offer.

He couldn't harm these... kids. It wasn't their fault they were doing this. Instead of focusing on offense he switched his efforts to defending and trying to limit the damage until a counter to whatever this was could be found.

"Justice League, they are not of their own mind. Something is altering their minds."

As he shifted his attention to defense, he ceased to be the giant stone form and instead turned into a sandstorm, engulfing the scene, trying to play defense on both sides.

As the armor piercing rounds rained toward Terra The Sandman wrapped each of them in sheaths of sand, slowing their momentum. They couldn't pierce if they fell from the air. Not moving earth, but calling it into being around the bullets themselves.

Then the sand storm intensified. It was like being peppered by a metaphysical sandblaster. He wanted to end the fight, but he didn't want to hurt anyone too badly. The friction burns from the sand might serve enough of a distraction to pull their attention. He hoped.

...Red Arrow slapped leather, hauling a Colt 1911 out of its holster and firing to wound Green Arrow...

When Carin rounded about to come back at Wally, Kid Flash made like he was going to meet her head-on...

...and then slammed his fist straight downward in a short-range version of the supersonic punch that Silver Bullet had practically made a signature move...

...punching the pavement with enough force to pop Velocity up into the air, hopefully taking her off-balance to be smacked down...

And that's when Rebel's flash vision hit Red Arrow's gun, forcing him to yell out in pain and drop the superheated sidearm... he dove and rolled, coming up on one knee and hurling a hail of throwing-daggers at Connor.

Green Arrow had seen Red going for his sidearm and had pulled an arrow and shot quickly. He had aimed for his opposite's shoulder, not looking to take the other guy out permanently, but still looking to put him out of the fight.

He wasn't sure quite what happened next as Raven appeared out of thin air between him and Red, and then she was coughing up blood and had staggered over to the Rider. They had then gone after Red but not before he had launched several knives at him.

He had dove to his left and come up with an arrow on his string looking towards Red, but had seen him in the clutches of the Rider. Scanning for another target he spotted Aztec and let fly. The sensor in the arrow head would trigger the net once the arrow got within a foot of his target, spraying it out and wrapping it in a light Promethium alloy net.

"No."

Batman Red growled.

"No, that's enough. That's enough obstructionism. That's enough character assassination. If you were really interested in seeing justice done, you would have let us get on with the work and not cared about jurisdiction or glory."

He locked eyes on Green Arrow. "You want a hard decision, 'Arrow?' Here's one. SHUT IT DOWN!"

And then his voice turned from growl to thunder: "Titans. GO!"

And with that, the Titans of both coasts leaped to engage their New League counterparts...

...Batman Red snapped a cryonic Batarang into his hand and hurled it for Batman...

None of this made any sense to Damian. Drake seemed to be a bit unhinged. Especially if he thought one of those cryonic Batarangs was going to do anything. It was easily intercepted by one of his small exploding ones as he jumped back. He was ready to defend himself if need be, but he wasn't making any agressive movements. At least not for now.

Silver Bullet was still a rookie, relatively speaking. But he had taken to The Speed Force like a duck to water-- like a prodigy. The fact that he had already instinctively developed the ability to form a suit out of The Speed Force was an indicator that he had massive promise.

When Carin came at him in full vibration trying to take out his leg-tendons-- an injury that would take him out for hours at the very least --rather than letting her pass through him he wheeled aside like a matador, braking hard before he could whip around and go back after her.

Here was where teamwork would have come in handy.

Velocity placed Batman Red's batarang behind him to fly at him and hit him-- but Rebel threw Batman Red high into the air before he could react-- so the batarang just continued to slice towards Batman (Blue?)-- albeit with further to travel and more time for the newer Batman to counter.

Batman Red himself, meanwhile, high in the air-- hit the control to retract his cape, sprout wing-fins from under his arms, and fire the jets in his boots, flying back down into the fray-- peppering Batman with a hail of bladed dart-sized Bat-shuriken.

Silver Bullet, meanwhile, decided to intervene in Velocity's shenanigans. "Shot in the back? Not cool, bro." He grabbed Red Arrow's bullet before it drilled Roy in the shoulder, and moved it again-- right in front of Green Arrow.

Though, to Hiro's credit, he made sure to line the bullet up with Connor's bowstring rather than his body, aiming to snap the line and keep Connor from firing back at Roy anytime quickly.

Wally did not like being ignored, and he gritted his teeth as he kept after Velocity like a Kid possessed. (Which, of course, might not be so far from the truth?)

When Carin rounded about to come back at Wally, Kid Flash made like he was going to meet her head-on...

...and then slammed his fist straight downward in a short-range version of the supersonic punch that Silver Bullet had practically made a signature move...

And that's when Superboy, having been momentarily slowed down by Sandman's dream-fog, came at Rebel with a guttural grrrrowl, aiming a full-force flying knee at the center of her chest.

That knee landed right between the girls. Hard. Almost enough to knock the breath out of Rebel. Almost. Jo wrapped her arms around Superboy's leg as he struck and Jo let physics take over, dragging him along for the ride. She got her legs under her raising Superboy up by his calf and knee and switched to strength slamming him down onto the ground with her full strength.

What Dreams May Come.

As Raven lingered close to death, juuuust close enough to blur that line along with her vision, a soft familiar voice murmured in her ear:

"Hold on. Help is coming."

"Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath."

“Vengeance is MINE!! Sayeth THE LORD!!” The Rider bellowed on a psychic level.

And it leaped, Chains of Damnation drilled downwards for Zatanna and her thrice cursed magics.

Crashing into Red Arrow The Rider whispered.. “Look into my eyes and receive Judgment..”

The Penance Stare bored into Red Arrow's eyes, and he screamed in agony, squirming and shuddering in pain and clutching at the air as he wrothe in her wroth...

...but all the while, as Red Arrow twisted and wept in pain, not just at the wrongful mortal wounding of Raven, but at the lives he'd hurt as an addict, at the collateral damage every time he had given into Cheshire's seduction and played jump-rope with the hero/anti-hero line...

...there was another voice in the back of his mind, impervious to the pain, impervious to the Hellfire, and it laughed and laughed and laughed to see such sport...

Meanwhile, as the chains drilled down towards Zatanna, she drew in a deep deep breath and let it out in a "CILEGNA MAERCS!"

The sonic flash of an Angel of The Eagle Host split the air...

...capable of dispersing celestial and infernal constructs, of dispatching noncorporeal entities back out of this plane of existence...

...the links of the chains shattered to dust as they approached her, and certainly the sound of that cry would be anathema to The Rider's ears...

Earth Angel, Earth Angel, Please Be Mine.

“Well, fuck..” Renegade smirked. “Ever dance with the Devil?"

"I was born underground in darkness," Atlee retorted. "Your Devil and his Hell hold no dread for me."

Terra grinned-- a sandstorm was like radar to her, like sonar, like a hundred thousand points of Braille that her chthonic resonance could read with an effortless glance-- those grains that wrapped and slowed the bullets, she harnessed them... and used the wreath of sand around each round to throw them back at Renegade in a hail at full blazing tilt...

Then the sand storm intensified. It was like being peppered by a metaphysical sandblaster. He wanted to end the fight, but he didn't want to hurt anyone too badly. The friction burns from the sand might serve enough of a distraction to pull their attention. He hoped.

With a cry, Atlee threw her hands out to her sides, not unlike Moses parting The Red Sea, or The Sorcerer from The Sorcerer's Apprentice... hurling the sand aside like a wave in every direction, scattering The Sandman from the battlefield and forcing himself to reassert control over his own particles.

Moons of Mars.

Karan vs. Kiran. Solar Incarna vs. Lightbringer.

Solstice cried out in surprise as the mirror-polished shield flew to intercept her beam and bounce it off course... but Rose made a noise of grateful delight!

She wouldn't have been as hurt by the light-blast as if it had been fire, but the heat of the blast wouldn't have felt awesome.

As it was, she reached out with her mind, her telekinesis snagging the shield as it clattered to the ground, blown off-course by the beam-bounce...

...and flung it hard at Solstice.

Solstice was unable to dodge in time, and her light-aura insufficient to stop an Amazonium shield, and the projectile knocked her spinning from the air and down to the ground in a heap.

But even knocked down, even knocked out, she sat up again, that wicked presence crawling and scrawling through her mind, manipulating her like a puppet and forcing her to fire bolt after bolt at Rose again, forcing Rose to fly and dodge as fast as she could.

"Uh, can confirm, 100%, there's some kind of malignant mental force at work here!"

Supercharged even as she reeled from the blow, Karan.. Wonder Girl.. gave Captain Marvel an a right uppercut. “To the Moon, Alice. To the Moon.”

(Obviously, dating someone who was super into old TV shows was rubbing off on Karan.)

Cap blew back through the air at that mighty haymaker, skull ringing like a bell-- then managed to recover, The Stamina of Atlas giving him a healing and nigh-invulnerability factors to rival even The Girl of Wonder and Steel. "Good hit! Hercules approves!"

Beams lashed from her eyes, Not focused enough to destroy, but tight enough to blind as she looked at Zatanna.

...but he also had The Speed of Mercury, just as Planet-Master had, and Captain Marvel darted to intercept those beams, catching them on his bare palm with one hand while pitching an orb of blue-white ball lightning at Wondergirl with the other...

He's just this guy, Uno?

...Aztek's arms snapped up and he fired a spread of low-yield missiles at G.R.I.D. and Aquagirl...

Milton! Lysl reported. Multiple projectiles inbound!

Unlocking the Super Missile function. Fire to intercept!

"Firing solution locked and loaded!" Milton replied, lunging between the missiles and Aquagirl and launching his own spread of more-powerful missiles, blasting Aztek's out of the air!

"Gracias, G.R.I.D.!" Aquagirl clapped him on the shoulder. "You got this? I'm going after Raven!"

"Got it. Go!"

Aztek's glanced at the arrow as it flew for him, his helmet's X-Ray vision showing him the net inside the arrow, and as quickly as he had upped his molecular density for strength and resilience, he cued his suit to drop his density so that he was intangible... the arrow sliced right through his incorporeal form...

...switching back to normal density, Aztek held up one palm towards Connor and one towards Milton, firing a golden energy blast at each...

********

Bounding through the melee and the fray with all the strength afforded her as a woman adapted to ocean depths, Aquagirl landed on her knees next to the fallen Raven and hurriedly applied healing magics-- her hands glowing with blue-white light...

...one of the first new spells they'd taught her during her studies at The Atlantean Conservatory...

"C'mon, c'mon, hang in there, Cuerva..."

Can't Kon a Conner.

On any other day, Superboy would have made a quip about that being a sick wrestling move... perhaps making some reference to the gorgeous Rebel being a Stone Cold Stunner, haha...

...but the darkness that had overridden him after he'd shaken off The Fog of Dreams was making him more focused and formidable opponent than he had been last time...

...and this time, when Rebel slammed Superboy to the ground with all of her strength, like last time Superboy used his telekinetic force aura to absorb the impact and redirect it...

...except instead of shunting it into the ground around him, he dumped the force of that massive collision into her, blasting her back with all the strength she'd used on him through the points where her hands grabbed his legs...

Damien: "One Who Subdues." Timothy: "Honoring God."

Batman.... Batman-Black for now easily dodged the shuriken. There were other ways he could have avoided them. However he didn't want to give Drake or anyone else any ideas of his suits cababilities were.

Batman Red swooped and dove to engage Batman Black directly in hand-to-hand combat, flexing his hands and activating a reconfiguration of the suits' gloves... the fingers elongating and sharpening instantly into talons.

He swept in for Batman Black's armored suit, attempting with his left hand to rake the chestplate-- hoping to sever important connections and disable power cells-- and with his right hand to swipe at Batman Black's face to shatter optics and damage comms and sensors...

Fair Exchange.

...drawing her sword, Knight attacked Hotline, gritting her teeth...

"Jesus, Ber'!" Ruby sputtered, diving aside, the blade carving chips and chunks out of the paving stones.

"Not so easy to beat us up now, ennit?" The Knight roared.

"'Arder now that yeh can't be The Dark Knight or that bluddy space-prince!"

"Knight, that was training!" Ruby blurted as she felt the whistle of the blade through the air as it narrowly missed her side...

"It was yeh bein' a pox-arsed bully, is what!" Knight retorted, going in for a stab...

...Ruby threw herself sideways, barely keeping ahead of the swordswoman, but her dive was targeted...

...and she came up holding the shield that Wondergirl had thrown and Rose had telekinetically bounced off of Solstice.

Knight's next slice clanged like a bell against that shield, and Ruby grunted from the impact of it.

But then, to make things worse, Starfire swooped in-- Raven was no longer a threat to her, and she had decided to go after a target of opportunity-- Hotline.

"You are roasted meat, 'comrade!'"

And fired a searing emerald starbolt...

...reacting with genius and instinct in equal measure, Ruby cried out with dismay and effort and angled the shield just like Karan had...

...bouncing Starfire's blast off of the shield and into Beryl Hutchinson's armored midsection, sending The Knight skidding away with a roar of Cockney fury...

At that moment, Ruby's Dial bleeped, signalling that the timeout cooldown was over...

...and frantically, cowering behind that shield for cover against Starfire's blistering attacks, Ruby hurriedly punched the numbers... "C'mon, c'mon, come the fuck on... give me something good!"

But then her eyes, too, swam back into focus, and the one behind the Lantern symbol on the left side of her face seemed to sizzle and spark.

"No. We tried a truce! You guys need to go down!"

And instead of meeting his green hand with a handshake, she met it with a massive green fist exploding out of her Ring with the force of a runaway city bus...

He almost had her, she did stand down for a moment.

Instincts screamed in warning and he barely had time to pull back his hand and use it to cover his face and the other to cover his chest as an emerald fist SLAMMED into him. He flew backwards from the impact, barely registering Sandman's words of some control. He hit the fountain, but the fountain remained standing, Garfield did not splatter against it, in fact Garfield had shimmered into Red Hawk form, or rather Green Hawk. Using the speed from the impact, he had swooped upwards and now folded those wings and dove straight at Teen Lantern, as she focused on him to retaliate, he seemed to disappear again.

Thousands of gnats came hurtling at her at near impossible speeds, which would splatter them against any solid surface.

Whirling to find The Sandman had geoconverted himself, he was facing two beings made of rock, Grunge gritted his teeth and hardened the green energy around himself, using it as armor and enhancing his strength.

"Blow it out of your ass, gas mask."

And he leaped for Sandman with his fists over his head, exerting enough force to shatter stone... at least, any stone other than Braggock.

The snakes of flame caught Grunge in mid-air, most of them sizzling ineffectively against his improvised emerald force-aura, but there were flames that burned yellow and ripped through his shield, flickering against his shirtless skin and causing him to roar in pain, to land badly, his shield dissipating-- though, to his credit and the credit of his trainers, he rolled with the landing, managed to get up on one knee...

His Teen Lantern energy had been expended, but Grunge reacted instinctively, blocking the kick with two upheld palms...

...of course, for any normal person, that would only mean he would get kicked through the base of The Space Needle and reduced to pulp, but Grunge absorbed the substance of Braggock's geodermis on contact, instantly morphing into the same fiery obsidian that composed Braggock's form.

"My turn," he snarled, grabbing Brag's ankle and twisting, hoping to flip the giant rock-man in midair and force him to face plant on the pavement.

Braggock let out a rather undignified squawk, which came out sounding like stones grinding together in the upper ranges of a mountaintop. He was spun as if on a spit, his body rotating rapidly on the horizontal axis.

Timothy Braggock had spent years training in martial arts and competing in amateur MMA fights. Instinct and training kicked in and he clapped his palms to the ground and tucked his shoulder, rolling out of the throw and to his knees. The ground was only slightly damaged in this process. He eyed Grunge, now his mirror image. Grunting, Braggock stood and did a little boxers shuffle, rotting his shoulders and putting his fists up. He danced in as lightly as a man made of rock could.

He threw a quick right-left combination of punches at Grunge, trying to feel the situation out, feeling like he was missing something here.

Not a Veteran but a Veterninarian.

Thousands of gnats came hurtling at her at near impossible speeds, which would splatter them against any solid surface.

Teen Lantern was still a Green Lantern in Training, and her Ring was not as powerful as those truly inducted into The Corps.

But she was no slouch.

And perhaps her will was being reinforced, bolstered, by the sinister entity that was marionetting The Titans...

...without even blinking, the light of her Ring flashed and a wall of solid stone bricks shimmered into being, sculpted out of emerald plasma.

But the moment the wall obscured the fleet of gnats from view, Gar apparently changed tactics, changing from a swarm of biting insects into a wrecking-ball pachyderm...

...punching into that wall with enough force to shatter the construct...

...crying out in surprise and fury, Jessica lashed out once more, firing a bolt of green lightning at the one-man wildlife park.

Modern Stone-Age Family.

Grunting, Braggock stood and did a little boxers shuffle, rotting his shoulders and putting his fists up. He danced in as lightly as a man made of rock could.

He threw a quick right-left combination of punches at Grunge, trying to feel the situation out, feeling like he was missing something here.

Grunge wasn't as big or as tall as Braggock-- he'd turned into a Grunge-sized sculpture of Grunge carved out of Braggock-stuff.

The punches weren't bad. Quick, sharp, the guy obviously had some kind of training.

But just as Braggock was feeling out Grunge's skills and capabilities, Grunge had to adjust to a different mass and weight, a different speed and a different strength. Those one-two punches gave him a chance to test out the reflexes of a crystalline central nervous system-- Grunge was able to deflect them in time, slapping them aside with open palms, but it was like the world was underwater--

--testing himself as much as Braggock, Grunge fired a right jab-- as much of a feint as an actual blow-- and followed it up with a crushing left hook.

"I am... CHEMICAL KING!"

She became a handsome male, seemingly human, dark-haired and Caucasian and dressed in green...

...he squinted.

A genderfluid sapphic... in the body of a gay cis male?

Even for me that's an adjustment.

But okay, 'Chemical King,' what have you got for me?

Condo Arlik's powers came to his mind in a rush, even as Starfire flung another globule of verdant, explosive energy down at his borrowed Amazon shield.

...okay. I can work with this.

Swinging his fist upward, Chemical King presented the gleaming Flight Ring... and soared straight up, depriving Starfire of the higher ground, she could no longer pin him down...

...and when he drew level with her, Starfire roared in defiant rage and flew at him, blazing speed, a contrail the color of her hair sizzling behind her... and she slammed into that incredible shield with all of her considerable strength.

Rocked to the very marrow of his bones, Chemical King nevertheless hung on for dear life as Starfire dragged him through the air...

...swerving back and forth through the sky over the battlefield...

...but all the while, his hands were glowing.

...and all of a sudden, Starfire realized she was...

...sweating? ...slowing?

"Why do I... why do I... tire?"

Grimacing at the strain of the g-forces Starfire had been putting him under, Chemical King nevertheless replied: "I possess the power to manipulate chemical reactions, stall them, accelerate them... I've accelerated your solar metabolism so that you're burning through your reserves faster than you can absorb more!"

"This... this is treach... treachery..."

And then she fell headlong towards the ground...

...she landed hard on one shoulder, cracking the pavement under it but not incurring any significant injury.

Even if the mysterious malignancy manipulating The Titans wanted to puppet her unconscious body as it had Solstice, Starfire would have no fuel to burn, no energy blasts, no flight, minimal strength...

Hotline had taken Koriand'r out of the fight.

But then Zatanna glanced upward. And with a voice that was still scratchy from her angelic scream, she murmured: "O-R-E-H."

Braggock stared up at her in horror, knowing that even if he could catch her, it would injure her soft flesh on his hard substance. He had no power to cushion her fall, aside from flames, which would burn her.

He was only distracted for an instant, but his thought lingered. In a field full of so called heroes, not one of them was going to protect the girl?

"I was born underground in darkness," Atlee retorted. "Your Devil and his Hell hold no dread for me."

“Please bitch,” Renegade smirked as she shook with bullet impacts. Dropping to her knee, she shook with pain, but stood back up as metal hit the ground. “I don’t have a devil or a Hell. Except listening to a bunch of whiney brats claim the high road, and try to kill me. And Raven. So, gonna murder any more people?”
