Betrayal is an ugly, painful experience.
The person who betrays may walk away thinking they have the upper hand, or have gained more, or won somehow,
but they have hurt themselves just as much even if that revelation hasn’t caught up with them yet.
Our actions affect ourselves, others and the world for better or for worse.
The person on the receiving end of betrayal has a choice in how to respond: revenge or forgiveness
(forgiveness as releasing the resentment because it is poison to the self, taking the wisdom from the experience and moving on).
That choice will also have its consequences. Always count the cost.
