There was a time when ignorant simply meant 'lacking knowledge'. It was OK to be ignorant; there was no criticism implied. The colloquial meaning - ill-mannered or uncouth - loaded with criticism, came later. Ah well, you can't stop progress. :)
 
If you were writing dialog, that is how you would have persons from certain areas of the south pronounce the word, but then you would hyphenate it draw' or maybe even dra', depending on the region.

I tried explaining that to my wife recently when I indicated she was ignorant about a particular topic. Needless to say, no erotic stories came out of our interactions on that particular evening.
