Some helpful details

Here is the promised run down from the Serenity RPG book. Its a bit rough, but it might add some useful details. Some of it will rehash things everyone should know already. If something interests you, let me know and I'll see if I can add a bit more about it.

History

The year is 2518.

Humans have left earth because they used up all of its resources. People tend to glamorize Earth-That-Was as some kind of Garden of Eden. The people were forced to leave in "arks" for a new solar system. At least a full generation was born and died on the trip. Crowded together, old nationalities and ethnicities began to blur. Humans arived in a solar system with dozens of planets and hundreds of moons. The first two worlds to be terraformed and colonized were Londinum and Sihnon.

The Anglo-Sino Alliance was fromed on these two core worlds with the fromal parlement on Londinum. The Alliance believes that it can make peoples' lives beter by controling everything. For the most part, the govenor of a world sets its affairs, but the Alliance sets sweeping system wide policies.

The Unification War started when the Alliance wanted to extend its influence from the rich and technologicly advanced core worlds to the poorer border and rim worlds. The rim worlds formed the Independant Faction known as the Browncoats. The Purple Bellies, as the the alliance was called for there style of dress, were forced to start a draft while the Browncoats were primarly voluntary. After five years the war ended with the Alliance victorius.

Even two years later, things are still looking bad. The Alliance had promised to help rebuild the border worlds, but red tape is always in the way. Some of the Alliance leaders also want to punish the rebelious worlds. As of yet the former independant worlds cannot vote in the parlement and some want to keep it that way.

Organizations

Blue Sun Corperation: Blue Sun's logo is on almost everything. They hold a monopoly on most comon items. Unfortunately this system wide corperation has grown greedy and corupt. The executives are in close with key alliance personel.

Iskellian Technology Solutions: The most widespread technology company.

Unified Reclaimation: They pick up most of the trash in the 'Verse. They really started making prophets because they are the only ones that can legaly issue salvage liscences.

Guilds: Guilds are important to controling trade. Where a guild is, you cannot get work if you do not belong to the guild, however, guilds do protect there members.

The Syndicate: It controls most of the organized crime in the system.

The Tongs: Originating in anchient china, tongs were buisness and social organizations. They still operate much the same way, but many are wrapped up in ilicit trades such as opium, gambling, and brothels. A tong will stand up for its members if they are in trouble. Unfortunately some of the feuds go back a long time and the tongs settle problems with violence.

Worlds

Central Planets: They are technologicly advanced and rich. Most have landing and flying restrictions.

Ariel
Bernadette: There is an underground slave trade here.
Londinum: The home of the Parlement and the seat of western culture.
Osiris
Sihnon: The seat of eastern culture. Most guilds are headquartered here.

Border Worlds: Not as advanced as the core worlds, they still are able to benefit from trade with them. Some of them are suppose to have flight restrictions but a blind eye is easly turned.

Beaumonde: Heavily industrialized.
Bellerophon: Private estates for the wealthy.
Boros
Hera: A largely agricultural world. It is the home of the infamous Serenity Valley.
Newhall
Paquin: Carnivals and side shows, this is a world of entertainment.
Persephone: Is much like Earth-That-Was and is very diverse.
Santo: Once rich resorts, now after the war it has more shady cassinos and other "fun" places.
Verbena

Rim Planets: Uncivilized and low on technology.

Athens
Beylix: Well known for junk dealers.
Ezra: The crimelord Adelei Niska has his skyplex here.
Greenleaf: A tropic world with a drug and plant trade.
Haven
Higgins' Moon: The town of Canton is found near the mudpits.
Jiangyin: One of the most backwater and primitive planets.
Lilac
Miranda
Regina
Shadow: The first world to rebel against the Alliance, it was bombed until it is no longer inhabitable. It was Mal's home world.
Triumph
St. Albans: One of the coldest planets.

Ok, I know it leaves something to be desired, but it should help a little.

Ugh. I wrote a long post and then my browser died and I lost it. Plus, Lit keeps asking me to log in every 5 bloody minutes, which lost me the post I wrote yesterday. So now I'm 2 lengthy posts down and having a sense of humour failure. :(

In the meantime, here is our Firefly Chinese Glossary. Please stick to the phrases listed here, for the sake of simplicity.

Ni tama de tianxia syuoyou de ren duo gaisi!
Starting with bloody Firefox. Grrr!

Just bumping this up the OOC so people don't have to hunt for the link.

Thanks for that Feral. Anything more you can tell me about Yukon?

As far as I can tell, Yukon is a world that La_Renia came up with. I haven't exactly gone back and watched the whole series to find it, but it wasn't in the RPG book or on the fireflywiki. However, here is my own right up of it:

Planet: Yukon
Location: Rim, close to the border planets
Population: 1,185
Climate/Terain: Temperate plains and some desiduous and boreal forests.
Capital: Homestead
Industry: Ranching, timber

Yukon is a planet almost entirely populated by women. Most of the males are young boys or married men. The planet was originally colonized by women that wished to break away from what they felt was the patriarchal oppression that had led to humans having to leave Earth-That-Was. Now the world has a few small towns and several larger settlements. Most of the women work as ranchers or lumberjacks. A planetary law requires that all males be registered when they land on the world and must be accompanied at all times by a female if they are not a citizen.

Yukon was largely ignored durring the Unification War and they liked it that way, seeing it as a male generated problem. Their contention came in to being when the Alliance tried to appoint a male govenor to the matriarcal world. The rebelion was so pronounced that Alliance withdrew the govenor and replaced him with a female. The populace was appeased enough to stop confrontation, but they are still passively resistant.

Yukon largely outlaws prostitution. The Companions Guild is included in this. This goes back to beliefs held by the founders that prostituion is a form of male domination. With few men on the planet the demand tends to be lower than on other worlds. It is worth noting that the number of women on Yukon does not seem to be much higher than for most Rim Worlds despite the lack of women. At least that is the appearance.

I think that, for the sake of clarity and Lit's SRP rules, we should have an 18th birthday for River soon. Then Kimberlee can take River's char in whatever direction she chooses.

I'm also thinking that Mira is going to take a shine to Jayne. She likes her men big, mean and stupid enough to protect her no matter what. She doesn't have to trust him because he isn't built for duplicity and she knows that what she sees is what she gets.

are you sure i cant play

Sorry honey but not at this time. Poor dragonrazor's still waiting his turn to get involved.

Also, with respect, I think English is not your first language? I find some of your other posts difficult to understand.

I have to stand with velvetdarkness on that.

Anyhow, here is a rough idea of what I was thinking we could do over the next ark of the story. After getting Mira on the ship, Mal joins up with Jayne and Zoe and start the robbery. It is going smoothly, but back at Serenity some hired goons show up for Mira. The rest of the crew has to keep them at bay until the heavy hitters get back. When Mal, Zoe, and Jayne get back they manage to run off the thugs, but it is obvious they are just retreating to get the big guns so they have to break atmo quick! From there we can spend some time out in the black as we travel to Yukon. With everyone on the ship, it'll be easy to for everyone to enteract and develope their character.

oh.......

guess that makes me the asshole.

....good thing I'm playing Jayne....

Sorry bro, LOL, I blame the lack of caffeine - I'll be sure to get something in there today and my less evil twin brother thinks you may hear from Wash as well. The plan for taking the med supplies and all that sounds great, maybe Jayne can hurt someone!

I also foresee Jayne getting his ass kicked by the new girl....no way he wouldn't hit on that. Also no way he'd figure she was a martial arts specialist. This could be fun.

heh. I'm watching Transformers: The Movie...not More Than Meets The Eye, the live action flick from recently...the anime movie from the 80s

yep. this is the second anime the US was ever truly exposed to (the first was Akira, which was shown in the theaters). It's too bad everyone hated Rodimus Prime so much that they cancelled the series after a few eps of season 2. I happened to like him

As for Yukon that's exactly what i was thinking and had based it on that one episode where Serenity helped Inara's friend on that western planet. The one where Jayne was screwing all the whores? Does anyone remember. It was lightly based off of that, but exactly how Feral interpreted it. Thank you.

Looks like a fun place. I can see Inara getting annoyed though because I doubt companions are allowed to work there.

How long is this trip going to take us? It'll make working things out easier if somebody sets a timeframe on our (expected) arrival in Yukon. No doubt something will occur to make us late. *winks at dragon*

I updated the Yukon discription to include the note that companions cannot work there.

Thanks. If nobody has any objections, I am going to suggest that the voyage to Yukon will take about a week. It'll give the crew time to interact and dragon will have plenty of time to kick off with whatever he's got up his sleeve.

I want to let Zoe and Jayne get a post up from the heist before I post Mal again and head back to the ship. In the mean time, someone else can throw in a post about the arival of the tong thugs trying get Mira. I could do it as Simon, but it seems to me that he probably isn't going to be loitering around the ramp waiting for the other three to return. He would be in the infirmery waiting for them to return.

hmm...I could have Jan take a bit of a walk to see if there is any last minute purchases he needs

I have a post ready but want to get Velvet's approval before posting it to the I/C thread.

(nudges Velvet) I sent it in pm to you Velvet! ((hugs))
