https://ntknetwork.com/201-democrats-just-voted-against-extending-chip-funding-through-march/In the last week, budget negotiators in the House and the Senate put together a deal that extends government funding through January 19.
More importantly, the budget deal extends funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) through March. CHIP had faced an end to funding, with health insurance for millions of American children at risk.
As AP also reported, some Democrats are saber-rattling on CHIP, claiming the GOP only cares about “tax cuts for the rich and powerful,” as Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) put it. But Merkley and 200 other Democrats in the House and Senate voted against the spending package that extended CHIP funding through March.
These 201 Democrats will have to return to their districts for the holiday season, and may have to answer to their constituents why they voted against extending funding for children’s health insurance.
