No, it's having had the Tour de France start here in 2014, I think :D Which was fabulous! There is a massive Norman influence on our language, though, you're right. Quite often there are two or three words for something, subtly different nuances, because of the different 'roots' of English, Viking, Norman and earlier... Must be a nightmare translating into English from other languages and choosing just the right phrase...
