Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Comic-Con Trailer [HD]

Looks good enough to wait for. Not nearly as thirsty for joint like I was for Ultron or am for Civil War, but still.

I'm on board with most of this, but Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor — what little is being shown in this trailer — is not thrilling me at all. Thought he was the Riddler at first. Here's hoping he has a subversive character arc. Same for Wonder Woman's presence. It's all about Bats and Supes here, anyone off to the side that's not on the bench better be bringing their A-game.

Also, the old Marvel/DC wars are flaring up again. Someone commented, "this trailer destroys the two Avengers movies."

I'm like...uhhhh, put your pants back on, dude. It's still apples and oranges at this point. But even a Marvel stan like me knows this will be good. :D

I dunno, DC bats about 50/50 with their movies. Sure the Nolan Trilogy knocked it out of the park but Superman Returns sucked, Green Lantern was terrible, honestly Man of Steel isn't great it just isn't so bad as to be offensive.

Zumi, it would not be an exaggeration to say I've been waiting my whole life to see Batman and Superman on the big screen. Ever since the ripe old age of five when I first saw a man fly in the Christopher Reeve film I've been dreaming of a day when the two biggest DC icons would appear in the same film.

I was hesitant about Zack Snyder directing Man of Steel, and while the film didn't blow me away, it's grown on me to the point where I can honestly say it's a very good film. I was hesitant about Batfleck as well, but from what I'm seeing I love the treatment Batman is getting, and Affleck may just pull it off.

So far so good. Very pumped up.

I'm actually wanting to see this Batman V Superman now. But the bigger news lately is that Affleck will direct and star in the next solo Batman movie with Chris Terrio co-writing. Having loved essentially all of BA's directorial/writing efforts this get's me more jazzed than anything.
I'm glad that DC is taking the grittier angle since the Marvel movies seem to be getting sillier. Is anyone willing to admit yet that Guardians of the Galaxy was pretty vapid or is the Emperor still swinging meat through the streets?

Yeah you're gonna have an uphill battle both ways on that one since nearly everybody loved Guardians. Is it silly? It's silly in the same way that Star Wars is silly, honestly less silly that some parts of Star Wars if we're really being honest.

Marvel (by which you technically mean Disney I assume) seems to be having a decent go of having their cake and eating it too as far as seriousness goes. I'd be shocked if anything we see out of BvS or the solo Batman comes close to being as dark as Daredevil, or even Captain America: Winter Soldier. I'd lay odds on Civil War being fairly gritty as well.

Rumor has it that Disney is in talks with Snipes over rebooting the Blade franchise. Which to me seems completely irrelevant. No need to reboot, just call it Blade: Vampire Wars (or whatever the fuck title tickles your fancy). The only reason to reboot is if you've got a serious hardon for Deacon Frost or Dracula. In the case of the former get the fuck over it in the case of the latter Dracula has never known how to stay dead in any franchise. Honestly him just waking up back in Romania would be far from the goofiest thing that's happened involving Drac and we all know it.

I am more impressed with BvS than I expected to be after that new footage, I'm just still cautious. I've never been big on Supes at all, and Batman while fun tends to be the least interesting part of anything he's in. Expecting him to carry a movie on his back may be asking a bit much. That said if you'd told me that Arrow would get four seasons I would have kicked you into the sun.

All great points Sean. I think Guardians is just not something I can get into. Zero subtext. And every time I see that lead....I forget his name, Pratt? I always think that should have been Sam Worthington instead.
And how dare you...nobody ever sang nostalgia radio into vermin in Star Wars :)

It's great that you mention the netflix effort.....I'm infinitely more excited for these than any of the remaining MCU movies. Barring Black Panther and Doc Strange.....hopefully they can have good stories unencumbered by having to steer the giant MCU ship towards the Infinity Gauntlet. I LOVE the street-level sluggers like Daredevil and Punisher and Cage and was a huge fan of Alias. I wish Doc Strange was getting this treatment.

Reboot Blade? OH, because they will make it PG-13 and need to introduce it to children.

Goddamn it. Now I'll be hearing the song from that movie for months. I hate the internet!

Hey, everybody has that thing they don't love and I get it. I'm just saying R2D2 and C3PO are at least as goofy as Groot and Rocket. Boba Fett would be cooler than the Bandit Lord except nobody is cooler than Ron 'Fuck mothering' Pearlman. Overall I think Ronin is better developed than Vader or Palpatine. . .and are we even going to bring up Jar Jar?

The Netflix stuff does look excellent. As for Blade like I said, fuck a reboot, Blade: Vampire Wars. Then re-release an editted version of the first three films. Honestly I hate to use the Marvel 90's trick to get butts into seats but have blade fight the Vampire Empereor of Japan and make sure the poster has a picture of Hugh Jackman. At the end of Act II, blade is about to die, some hardcore rock starts playing and BAM three blades are sticking through some chumps chest.

It would be worth whatever they had to pay Fox to make it happen.

While that's a bigger problem today where everybody has cameras and face book and shit like that I used to always joke that heroes are paranoid about nothing when it comes to secret IDs. There are a few million people in New York of which maybe being generous maybe a thousand can identify Peter Parker by sight. This is very true of regular people heroes and hell even of most rich heroes. It's never really established how famous Bruce Wayne actually is. We know he's a rich playboy but that doesn't actually mean anything. If one of the Waldens (the family that owns Walmart) walked up behind me in line I wouldn't have a clue who the fuck he was. Hell run down the Forbes 500 list and see how many of the names you even recognize let alone the pictures. Not every rich person is Tony Stark. And realistically people probably didn't know who Tony Stark was (outside various contractors and government officials) prior to him coming out as Ironman.

RAISING DION (COMIC BOOK)

written by Dennis Liu, illustrated by Jason Piperberg

Imagine Superman, but from Martha Kent's point of view. Or imagine Spiderman, but from Aunt May's point of view. This is a superhero story, but from the parent's point of view. But unlike her son, she doesn't have any powers.

PREMISE: Nicole, raises her 7 year old son, Dion, who has superpowers. Life was hard enough keeping up with the bills, let alone trying to keep track of her son’s invisibility, plasma powers, and telekinesis. In order to study his progress, Nicole films her son 24/7 with the help of her friend, Pat, who is an aspiring filmmaker. But when Nicole starts to notice mysterious men tailing her, and with Dion’s developing abilities constantly changing and becoming more powerful, she must find the courage deep within herself that she can raise Dion on her own.

‘Raising Dion’ comic book trailer is better than most movies

You’re unlikely to see a better trailer for a comic book — ever — than this one for Raising Dion, the superhero drama by Dennis Liu and Jason Piperberg. Wait, to call it a trailer does it a disservice; it’s a wonderfully produced, and wonderfully uplifting, short film.

While many superhero stories feature parents (whether alive or dead) as inspiration or a guiding force, Raising Dion offers a twist: It’s told from the perspective of single mother Nicole, who’s trying to raise her superpowered 7-year-old son.

Liu, a commercials and music video director, set out to tell a good story, but also to make a statement about superhero diversity.

“I did not want to play the race card, but honestly, as a member of the DGA EDSC [Directors Guild of America Eastern Diversity Steering Committee] Diversity council for several years, I felt like something had to be done about superhero diversity,” he tells Today. “I also felt the industry was simply answering the gender card by glorifying women as a war hero, like in The Hunger Games, or the new Wonder Woman film coming out. I think this [approach] works, but I wanted to point out that it doesn’t have to be the only solution.”

The first issue of Raising Dion can be downloaded for free: http://www.dennis-liu.com/, or purchased in printed form from Indy Planet.

Looks interesting. I'd point out that Smallville seemed to at least partially cover what it's like to raise a super boy and Peter was a late teen (in most tellings Senior in High School or Freshmen in College) when he got his super powers. The X-Men also have lots and lots of off to the side stories about what it's like to raise a freak. I still love the concept. Hell even Heroes covers this from both a non super powered parents (Clair's family) and a super powered family (Micahs). And that's jsut season 1 which is all I remember particularly well.

I am curious why a single mother doesn't "sell" out her son on that shit. I can't imagine having Dion on Oprah (or whatever talk shows are around today.) is even close to as bad as putting kids in beauty pagents and other talent shows. The only reason to keep this a secret is to keep the Men in Black from disecting him and if you're posting videos you already fucked that up.

I'll have to keep an eye out for this.

Isn't the Captain Marvel with the lightning bolt the now-named Shazaam?

No. I could bore you with the long convoluted legal history that if I recall properly actually outdates Marvel and DC in their modern incarnations and harkens back to when there were dozens of independent comic companies that would all eventually be absorbed into the "Big Two". (There is a reason why there are like five super smart gorillas running around DC.)

Anyway the Captain Marvel that is part of the Marvel Universe (currently) and is getting the movie is Carol Danvers also known as Miss Marvel. If you're familiar with 90's X-Men she's basicaly Rogue-the energy absorption. In fact the reason Rogue (in the 90's) could fly and had super strength was because she had absorbed Ms. Marvel's powers permanently through prolonged contact. (actually I think that happened in the late 70's but it's not important if you're not a comic geek.)

DC ALSO has a Captain Marvel this guy. He's who you're thinking of and powerwise he's basically Superman. I could again bore you with details. The thing that makes him "special" is he's really a kid (or in one universe like six kids) who had powers granted to him by a wizard. Strength of Hercules, Wisdom of Solomon, speed of Hermes. . I'm doing this by memory despite having a link open, it's fucking 4 am.

Anyway you're not WRONG. It's just COMICS ARE WEIRD!!!!!!!

you forget captain mar-vell, the pink kree with nega bands who died of cancer.

anyway, the short version is the trademark lapsed on the original captain marvel when they stopped publishing the comics in the 50's and marvel took advantage. that's basically it.
