So, I'm taking a break while my kitchen floor is drying. I've Mopped it 3 times.
And the bathroom floors too.
See, I got was working late today and as I was leaving I checked my cellphone and saw that I had a voicemail....from my landlord.
I recently moved to this locale and was quite fortunate to score a nice house for rent. I had great references and I tend to be somewhat anal retentive when it comes to organization and cleanliness.
HOWEVER, in the last few months I have been kinda lazy. I haven't even finished upacking.
I have even taken to just hanging my clothes haphazardly. I usually do this color code thing.....but that's another thread......
And....there's this stipulation in the lease that there will be NO smoking indoors.
No sweat... I have never smoked in my domicile...until recently.
SO, my landlord is flying down tomorrow and is gonna be here for two weeks. He wants to get together and meet me and see what I've done with the place.
Yikes!!!
So, I have been steadfastly cleaning and scrubbing and spraying the shit out of fabreeze. I have throughoughly cleaned the kitchen and bathrooms, the living room, and taken out three boxes that were emptied from my hastily unpacking frenzy.
My cat is looking at me as if to say..."Geez..we moving again?"
While I was mopping the kitchen for the third time, yes some may consider me OC, I remembered something from grade school.
Each week, we had to get up and read a passage, either from a book or the paper or something. Not only were we learing how to read, but we were learning to how to make presentations.
Anyways...when I was in the second grade, one of my classmates got up and read an article from a Northwestern US paper about his sister. She was in the merchant marines, or Coast Guard or something like that.
It was 1971 and this was not very common at the time.
He was so proud of his sister. The article talked about all the things she had to endure...the harsh treatment she received and so on.
One thing they focused on was how she always had to squab the deck, even when it wasn't her turn. But she never complained and did the job better than most others as it was noted by her "collegues."
So, while I was busy this late night/early evening mopping my floors, I wondered what ever became of her. I know there have been alot of women who have pioneered frontiers and made a much bigger "splash"...but it was all those women out there squabbing the decks that also made a major impact.
I guess this thread really doesn't have a "BIG" statement....afterall...it's the little things that count.
SO...I was just wondering...is there someone you've been fortunate to know that did the "little" things that make a big difference?
And the bathroom floors too.
