If you've been following the news at all closely lately, you know that there are widely varying accounts of the recent battle in the Shah-i-Kot valley. The Pentagon claims it was a great success, but Bush says there will be a lot more fighting in Afghanistan. Afghan allies of the U.S. claim many of the enemy fighters escaped. Also, there is a question about the composition of the forces on the other side. Are they Taliban and Al Qaeda "holdouts," or are they Afghans who resent the U.S. terror bombing and imperialist occupation of their country? Inquiring minds want to know! It's difficult to know what is really taking place on the ground in Afhganistan, given the fog of secrecy and disinformation from the U.S. military. Also, there's a serious prospect of widening involvement, with Bush rattling his nuclear sabers for an attack on Iraq. So here's your chance to vote on the subject, and express your opinion. Will the U.S. lose this war? Does it face protracted guerilla warfare in Afghanistan? What happens if the U.S. attacks Iraq-- will all hell break loose?

The Russians are probably having a good laugh right now, they got bogged down in Afghanistan for 10 years and withdrew in failure, and those soldiers were bloody happy to cross the boarder back into their own country.

That's because the fighting on the ground has been done mainly by indigenous proxy forces (i.e., hired mercenaries). But by most accounts, the Afghan "alllies" proved notoriously unreliable in the recent battle near Gardez, with most of them running away as soon as they came under fire. As the guerilla war drags on, more and more U.S. ground troops will be needed. (Thomas Freidman had a column in the NYT a few days ago along those lines.) Over time, U.S. casualties will mount-- as will protests against the war here in the U.S.

Well part of your problem is relying on the NY Times for news. And you look so very anxious for the there to be causalities. It must be a slow fund raising year for liberals. I guess if a few GI's die you can kick up the ole "Hell no we want go" fund raiser.

Face it the US is kicking ass and there is a whole lot of ass left to kick. There will be US deaths, but try not to look so damn smug about it.

Well, actually, I don't rely completely on the NYT for news. I supplement it with wsws.org, the Guardian (U.K.), Cursor.org, and other sources. But what's wrong with the NYT as a source of news, pray tell? What do you think is better? The WSJ, perchance? Hmmm?


As for U.S. casualties, I don't want any American boys (or girls) to die-- I want them all brought home immediately. It's hawks like YOU who want American troops to fight and die in the bleak, desolate landscape of Central Asia.

Last time I looked it was the radicals being harbored by the Taliban that flew 3 US jets into US property, killing close to 5,000 people. What I would have chosen was that it never happened.

But the fucked up beliefs of these radicals started a war. Now I want them dead. If they are dead, they can't kill anymore innocents. So fuck the radical’s beliefs or motivations. I do wish I was younger so I could go kill the bastards. I want them so dead that there families forget what the war was all about, that they will thank the allies for freeing them of the stupidity of radicalism and terror.

I would like to raise a family without worrying about going to public place and suffering the fate of a radical suicide bomber at the mall, beach, Disney World, etc....

Coming home without killing the radicals and enough of their leaders will be counter productive. The US didn't just do a little damage to Imperial Japan or Nazi Germany and walk away. We and our Allies destroyed these radical countries ability to wage war. Then dictated how they could rejoin the civilized world.

That is the example to follow, destroy the radical's supporters and their ability to wage war against you and your family. Because they will slit your throat and video tape it for their blood thirsty delight, as quickly as they would a Special Forces solider. They want you dead, because you are an American. Get use to it, they want you dead, along with your sister, mother, if you are old enough to have any children (I doubt it judging from your spineless position) they want them dead too. They could care less if you wanted the troops out of the Middle East.

REDWAVE your name speaks volumes about your intention towards America and freedom loving people. Oh by the way, Gorby denounced communism last week, or did you not pick up on it in the Clinton rag NYT.

Guess again, clit licker-- the Afghan peasants murdered by the U.S. terror bombing campaign were not responsible for the WTC attack. The hijackers were mainly Saudi nationals-- and the Bush regime flew a whole planeload of Saudis out of the U.S. back home right after 9/11. Hmm, sort of makes you wonder, doesn't it?

In a capitalistic republic you make wealth by making wise decsions and choices

I'm not voting this poll, cause my answer's not there. I hate war, I hate the Bush Administration......but more then that, I hate the Taliban and the Al-Qaeda terroist network. Yea, I know we're killing citizens over there, but they were busy getting killed by those bastards that attacked us YEARS before 9-11. We have to do what we gotta do, whether it's right or wrong. I have to back the prez whether I like him personally or not.

One of the reasons we lose too many of our own is because we as a nation have let the media become not only Big Brother but also tell all and show all.
