FIFTIES.

This was a little difficult for me to find anything I really liked, myself but here are my favorites, one from each year of the fifties, in order, by the year.

Mona Lisa

How High the Moon

The Blacksmith Blues

Vaya Con Dios

Unchained Melody

Mr Sandman

Que Sera Sera

Love is Strange

Fever

I Only Have Eyes for You

That's it, what we're your faves?

Next page we'll go to the 60's, that should be much easier. The 70's on up might be a lot harder to pick just on per year though. But hey, once we get to the 00's it will get much easier again! :p

My love of music spans generations.

Jailhouse Rock - Elvis (I'm a big fan)

My Funny Valentine - Chet Baker (Top 10 fave songs of all time, ever)

Tequila - The Champs

Rock n Roll Music - Chuck Berry

Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny Cash

You Send Me - Sam Cooke (Top 10 fave songs of all time, ever.)

I did have to look up "It Was a Very Good Year" by Frankie, but that was 1961. Between Elvis, Sinatra, Johnny Cash & The Everly Bros. it was hard not to list a ton of songs.

Unchained Melody

Tutti Frutti (the original lyrics to the song make me laugh because hey are incredibly filthy, for what seems to be a silly song)

And Chuck Berry had some brilliant stuff. And of course, Elvis.

But Unchained Melody is one of the greatest songs of all time, in my opinion.

Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley, Who Do You Love, Mona

Jive Bombers - Bad Boy

Howlin Wolf - Smokestack Lightenin'

Brook Benton - Just A Matter of Time

The Platters - Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

Del Vikings - Come Go With Me

The Diamonds - Little Darlin'

Screamin' Jay Hawkins - I Put A Spell On You

The Flamingos - I Only Have Eyes For You

Johnny Ray - Cry

Lloyd Price - Just Because

I don't think I could pick fewer than 100 songs from any decade and feel that I am doing them justice.

There's a lot of great music out there, in many genres.

HANK WILLIAMS--"Long Gone Lonesome Blues", "Cold, Cold Heart"

The EVERLY BROTHERS had a half-dozen that should be on the list.

ELVIS---what can you say? He's the King.

TOM LEHRER wrote a number of wonderful, funny tunes. Most apropos for this forum, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jKiunSRzAI

JERRY LEE LEWIS--lots of great stuff from the Killer

Patsy Cline-- practically owned the 50's in CW. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRDY38IWpkQ

THE MILLS BROTHERS--smooth, baby.

Face it, you could list a hundred artists, and most of them would have several worthy songs.

Popping Tom, I'm digging your picks, man!

"Well did you ever" was so cool!

Thanks for sharing!

PrettyBlue Eyes – Steve Lawrence
Twilight Time – The Platters
Sleepwalk – Santo and Johnny
Happy Organ – Dave ‘Baby’ Cortez
Dream Lover – Bobby Darin

I love seeing Les Paul and Mary Ford on you list. Les was such a brilliant man.

Since I"m talking guitar here, I gotta put Rock Around the Clock if only for it's iconic guitar solo.

Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis all had great songs in the 50s too.

Don't let the page stop you Jennifer, I was just giving people time to throw out their faves from the 50's is all.

Here's my list for the 60's

Stay (Just a Little Bit Longer), Maurice Williams

Stand By Me, Ben E. King

Twistin' the Night Away, Sam Cooke

Blowin' In the Wind, Peter, Paul and Mary

House of the Rising Sun, The Animals

Nowhere to Run, Martha and The Vandellas

Paint It Black, The Rolling Stones

White Rabbit, Jefferson Airplane

Scarborough Fair / Canticle, Simon and Garfunkel

Put a Little Love In Your Heart, Jackie DeShannon

Oh now, don't be like that Pointless, if it makes you feel better I really do like The Times They Are A Changin'.

My ma just used to play Peter Paul and Mary all the time is all.
