This article hits kinda close to home with me. I wonder if any of you have seen it? Prison Officials Push Magazine Ban

Being a female working in an all male institution some of you may think that I would agree with this article. But in fact, I totally disagree.

Among the many disgusting and disgraceful things that go inside the prison walls is what Officers refer to as "gunning". This is when an Inmate jacks off while looking at an officer, male or female. Personally, I feel like the act is equivelent to a sexual assualt. Some inmates atleast try to hide and be sneaky about it while others blatantly do it out in the open for anyone to see. Of course it is against the rules and when they are caught they are punished.

As it is, currently, in Florida, inamtes are allowed to have nude photos and porn mags as long as the don't show penetration. But, if the mags or pics are altered in any way we are allowed to confiscate them. ie: missing, cut, or torn pages. Unless the inmate is a straight up ass and trouble maker, I usually leave them with their stuff.

So, here's the way I see it.... Isn't it better for an Inmate to "whack" off to a porno mag than at an Officer? If they ban all porn from the institutions wouldn't this create a bigger problem for the Officers?

I am really interested in your thoughts and opinions on this matter?

Just more harassment -

I have never subscribed to the notion that prisoners must be denied anything that brings them satisfaction. These mags are useful for many reasons, including reducing pressure on the guards. I know many people hate the exercise rooms in prisons, but exercising is a very fine and useful way of clearing out the brain and letting off steam that all people might otherwise inflict on those in close contact with them. I din't know about prisoners wanking as they watch you walk by, but that sure is creepy. Good for you not to take away their source of pathetic release.

The system clearly doesn't care as much as it ought to care about rape in prison.

i have to say that often these decisions happen without talking to the people who know about them and work in that environment ... i couldnt possible say if i think its right or wrong because i dont know enough about it ... i would let the people who know what they are talking about it decide ... another words YOU :)

I don't want to detour from the topic at hand but

I don't actually hate the weight pile or the fact that the inmates have the privilege of using it. But damn, have you ever seen how big a guy can get when he has NOTHING else to do but work out 5-6 (maybe more) hours a day, 7 days a week?!?! The only good thing about that kind size is when you finally do get them cuffed up it hurts like hell for them to have their arms beind their back like that.

Sexy-Girl.. You're not the only one to think that. Unfortunately the people who are in charge don't ask our opinion and have little to no ideal what it is like working inside the institution. I can say though that in my part of the state there are a high number of correctional officers who care who we put into office so they take an active role at the polls.

That article got me thinking

A few days ago I was watching a late night program, that said a guy was sentencesed to life in prison for killing a guy because he was gay. Anyway, the comedian said, "Good luck, because your gonna be having it for the rest of your life." But, to answer your question, I don't thin it's wrong to have porn in prison, for the reason's you stated. "What a tic..." wasn't that our troll? What's he doing with internet access?

Don't ask me. I'm all for the castration of repeat sex offenders.

I'm not saying that it doesn't sound like fair retribution but do you really think it would make them stop? I've heard that "sex crimes" are actually hate crimes, crimes of rage, and most usually the only "control" the offender has in their life. If they didn't do it with their peter, DCL, I'm pretty sure they'd find something else to do it with....

I think that allowing porn in the prison can go far to keep the peace. I do not, however, agree with conjugal visits unless the inmate is very near parole.

In terms of sex offenders, would better retribution be to publicize who they are within the prison they are spending time at. There is honor among criminals and many don't consider sex offenses acceptable, especially with regard to children.

As an afterthought....

Now that I think more about it, I don't think it would. But, then again...

My view?

Simple.

Make the punishment fit the crime.

An arsonist is burnt to death.

Someone who kills someone by drunk driving? Well, it's better not to ask me about that.

Rapists? Take a 10 foot pole, with an electric outlet at the end, make them bend over, shove said pole as far as it will go up their ass, and turn on the juice.

Mean? Yes. Bloodthirsty? Maybe. Would it work?

Probably.

Fortunately, we live in a society in which shoving poles up people's asses is not considered an acceptable form of punishment.

Unfortunately, we live in a society in which more and more people, yearly, per capita, seem to be spending thier days and nights in our vast array of prisons and jails.

Something is out of whack in America today, boys and girls.
I don't have a clue what's wrong. I know very little about our national/state/local system of incarceration. What bit i do know, i've gotten from expose shows like 20/20 or 60 Minutes.

It's pretty much a given that sexuality is a very basic instinct in humans. Trying to suppress the acting-out of prisoner sexuality by taking poronographic materials from them doesn't scream this is a logical move and it'll be WAY effective to me. Seems that IF people are sexual beings THEN they will find an way to act on thier urges, in unacceptable ways if there's no acceptable option available to them.

Leave them the porn, for godssakes.
Let them masturbate. (Though if one of them was doing it while *watching* me walk by, i'd be freaked out - gotta be honest. That feels kinda rapelike, you know?)

What an interesting job you have, SK, my darlin.
