Your Thanksgiving Dinner?

T-day dinner was so good, I should have worn yoga pants, lol.

It was a good day, best T-day in a long time.:)

Let's see....the old battle ax made turkey, stuffing, and raw cranberry relish (yuck).

Gramps made mashed potatoes (with my help), and rutabaga.

I did praline sweet potatoes, applesauce, steamed broccoli with mornay sauce, and apple pie parfaits.

Additionally, we had a gorgeous glass bowl of black grapes and a vegetable tray (for fun...since there were only four of us), lots of Prosecco, and a huge green salad with mustard dressing.

Battle Ax arrived at four pm with the turkey, stuffing, and relish, and we ate early for once in our family's history. No stress holiday this year, since we all split up the work. Everyone went to bed buzzed and happy.

I went to Jersey--way too much traffic.

I live in New Jersey. Traffic is all that I see when on the roads anymore, and it keeps getting worse every year. I am tempted to move just so that I can drive my car the way it is meant to be driven.

The redhead and I drove up to grandniece #1's place in Incline Village, at Lake Tahoe yesterday early, in intermittent snow showers. I was afraid I'd have to put on chains, but once we topped Donner Summit, (EL 7200ft) and started down the other side, the weather cleared.
As a result we got there early and helped out my grandniece, who was hosting the family for the first time. She just had a baby eight months ago and I hadn't see the boy yet.

There were six or eight women all trying to 'help out" in the kitchen, while the men sat around and played with the baby, who is a real daddy's boy. We had to catch the football scores on the internet, because Grand nephew is too cheap to spring for cable.

Appetizers included Smoked salmon smeared with dill cream cheese, rolled around julianned cucumber. Also prosciutto wrapped around asparagus grilled and drizzled with a balsamic vinegar reduction, a hot cheese and artichoke dip, cheese and crackers, olives and pickles, and perhaps a few other things.

By about five the beer was getting low, the turkeys,(2 14 pounders) were out of the oven and Uncle Jack was the designated carver.

17 people and three dogs in a cabin was a bit of a stretch, but Grandmothers, Aunties and Sisters cooked, decorated and laid the tables, while discussing who the baby looked like and about my daughter's wedding next month, etc.

Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce. Green beans and mushrooms, with a gravy made from the turkey drippings with a little mushroom juice, made a lovely spread. After pictures of the baby with his Turkey bib, very cute, we got down to the eating and in twenty minutes, no one had room for pie, or the other five deserts supplied!

Clean up was easy with so many willing hands and we all settled down for some conversation waiting for pie time.

Grandniece was the center of attention as the baby played at her feet and the grandma's vied for his attention. Lots of baby talk and laughter as the baby began to enjoy all the attention.

We watched some You Tubes of a British program with cave men discussion the origins of things. Some were very funny and a bit more adult than American TV. Very funny.

After a while, it was pie time and we put out the deserts, Apple, and Pumpkin pie, Whoopy pies, ( which is the redhead's soft pumpkin cookies sliced and filled with cream cheese filling,) and Pumpkin cheese cakes were all I remember, but there were other things as well.

Grandniece was happy that she had pulled off a delightful dinner and that the baby was happy most of the day. Everyone had a good time and if there were any ruffled feelings I didn't see them.

We stayed overnight at a motel, and came back today, in sunshine and mild temperatures. herself had reserved a pumpkin pie at home and had a turkey in the 'fridge for us, we'll cook it tomorrow, and enjoy the left overs for a week.

Grandniece was happy that she had pulled off a delightful dinner and that the baby was happy most of the day. Everyone had a good time and if there were any ruffled feelings I didn't see them.

All in all a very delightful Thanksgiving dinner, except for the 49ers losing.

JackLuis...I must say, THAT sounds like a fantastic, cozy, warm, loving day you spent with family.

*warm fuzzies*
