Does it change from story to story, or pretty much stay the same? Has it evolved over time?

Mine is fairly consistent. I think it's gotten a little tighter since I started publishing here in December 2016. The only major deviations in my stories were when I intentionally parroted another author's style; I wrote a mock-Mickey Spillane style story and a story written in a mock Hemingway style.

I'm told that my style is pretty consistent. I've experimented with different voices, and over time I think I've come to be less dependent on the visual, but those changes might be more evident to me than they are to anyone else.

Editing and "polish" are different matters. I cringe when I reread my earliest stories.

Yup. Well said.

I read some of my very first stories the other day. Yep, all EB tropes present and correct, just in shorter form.

I have a recognisable style and can't be bothered writing like a chameleon. When readers open up one of my stories, they're pretty safe knowing what they're going to get, even if my subject matter varies and the category changes.

Unless I am doing a deliberate 'take' on someone (J P Donleavy, E L Doctorow, Elmore Leonard), I think my prose style is pretty consistent. If anything, it may have become more stripped down over the years. In fact, I hope that it has. My aspiration is to write: The cat sat on the mat and have readers enjoy reading it. :)

I have a couple of pastiche pieces where I deliberately emulated old styles (1001 Nights, Robert W. Chambers) but other than that, I think my style is fairly consistent, partly because I'd been writing for a long time before I came here.

I first wrote commercial fiction in the styles of Lawrence Durrell and Graham Greene. Over time I'm sure I formed my own style. My stories have become more wordy on Literotica, but longer works do fine here.

About the same. I have a fairly basic style.

But some stories I write with a more fun tone for the more outrageous settings, and some are a little more serious.

I guess it stays mostly the same but I still hope my writing has improved.

Being a new writer mine has evolved a lot. All those English lessons 50+ years ago I ignored have come home to bite me hard.

Starting out there wasn't an adjective I didn't like. Especially with the sex scenes. Then I learned the definition of Purple Prose. Oops! One big mess of stories buried in the never-see-the-light-of-day-dungeon.

Then another author here kindly pointed out my mistakes in dialogue and attribution. The 750 word exercise taught me a lot about tightening things up. Keeping a story flowing with minimal wordage. I enjoyed that a lot.

Now I'm working on changing from the narrator to more dialogue driven stories.

As a retirement hobby this has been a blast! :D

I would say mine is pretty consistent. It has improved over time - at least, I HOPE it has - but, as with my singing, my voice is my voice. I can't write (or sing) like anyone else, much as I might like to at times.

I read one of my earliest stories just to check. Compared to my most recent story I have changed dramatically. I'm not surprised since change/growth/exploration is a big interest of mine at this point in the game. One of my favorite stories, Mountain Man, was a typical third person narrative with dialogue. My most recent, Lumberyard Miracle, is a first person story with frequent changes in POV that includes both dialogue and interior thoughts/emotions.

While Mountain Man has been stuck at 4.44 for a long time, Lumberyard Miracle sits at 4.86. They are both in the Trans/CD category. I do not place a lot of weight on those scores for a couple of reasons — I have more followers and I think readers are voting more liberally now than a decade ago (just a 'feeling' no proof, of course).

But yes, my style has changed and hopefully will continue to do so — in a positive way, of course ;) I also do not eschew doing a new story in any style depending on what seems the best for that particular attempt.

A commenter once wrote "what a great stylistic range between these stories" referring to several of mine he'd read previously. That's really the only indication I have that my style might vary. I know the content of my stories varies tremendously, but I feel like the style remains pretty consistent. I still enjoy re-reading my earliest stories, so I don't know that I've evolved that much other than moving from simple strokers to more complex stories with a naughty element or two.

I have a work in progress now that is sort of experimental. I'm deliberately trying to write it differently without falling back on my usual style. I think I made a good start, but it sort of dried up awhile ago. Not sure if I'll ever get back to it.

Come on, no slacking! Stretch those muscles and get back to training ! No gain no pain — wait, that's not right — no pain no gain ;)
