I just want to comment on this idea that we have a measure of personal security surrounding the photos and images we share on this site. Let me be clear: Your photos are not safe.

I would be the first to defend your right to post anything you want and have it remain off the internet at large, but let's not be naive; you know there are people among us (and everywhere on the internet) that do not care one whit about your privacy or security. They will download your photos and videos and post them elsewhere either as something they found (for free!) or as their own. This happens all the time and there is nothing you can do about it. Nothing.

You can add a watermark to the images so at least there is an additional step to removing the copyright, but most wouldn't care if the entire image were covered with a legal form that threatened jail time. You see, they are protected by the thing that you desire here: anonymity.

As far as the legality of stealing someone else's work, copyright law is clear: whomever creates the photo, video, or work of art has claim to the copyright of that work. The only exceptions (which will not really affect anyone here) is work "for hire." That is, work that was done for someone else with the understanding that the copyright belongs to the employer. And that exception must be made clear in writing to be legally binding. So, yes, someone who takes your work and claims it as their own is breaking the law, but as of this writing, copyright claims in America can only be argued in Federal court, so it's going to cost you a lot of money to make that claim, even though you'd easily win. And really, who here wants to go to court and make a public claim against some dick who's motive may have been to out you in the first place?

To sum up, if you don't want your friends and/or family to see your nudie pics, don't post them on the internet. Better yet, don't make them to begin with. It's a hard truth, but it's something you need to accept before you press the shutter button on your camera.

Truth. Every time I see a photo of someone's easily identifiable face posted in the forums, I wince a little on their behalf.

I won't ever be posting my face here. Doubt I'd even do it privately, unless I had absolute trust in the person.

It's frustrating that pictures can be taken so easily, but it's a problem that's existed since the internet first went up. The war between easy access of information and security.

As an example, one of my models from years ago in Miami contacted me last year to ask if I could take down some of our shots from my portfolio. She had a new boyfriend and she was worried that he might see what she had done in the past.

None of the shots I made were pornographic or even nude, but she was extremely busty and there was no way to hide the fact. She had developed a following on the internet by perver— ...guys who had found her photos by me and other photographers and were sharing them with the world at large. Some of these other "photographers" had talked her into doing nude shots and those were in high demand around the 'net, but I had to tell her that while I would remove them from my site, there was no way to remove them all from the internet.

I also counseled her on the best way to handle this in the future. Her boyfriend is going to find out eventually, and her hiding the fact from him, or actively lying about it, was probably not going to end well for the relationship. If he cared for her, he should be able to handle this part of her past.

Absolute trust in what person? Someone you've never met in person from this website? Pfft. Just assume they will share the photos with someone else and you'll feel better when they turn up on Tumblr.

Well, I believe that some people truly do not care who sees the photos (I'm one), but the ones who think they are doing so safely are the ones I wonder about.

Plus, I'm a guy and my photos are hardly in demand, so there's that.

I would think this is fairly obvious?

I'm always assuming that users who post pics of themselves here (or anywhere else on the internet) wouldn't mind too much about their pics being distributed elsewhere. Because, surely, people do understand that they are posting online and the inherit risks of doing so.
I could be wrong of course but the www have been around for a while now, surely people would have grasped the concept of once on the internet, always on the interne by now?

Stating we don’t mind too much is a stretch. Taking someone else’s pics is scummy thing to do. I know it happens. That doesn’t make it any less shitty.

The internet is full of shitty people with absolutely no integrity. We can acknowledge that without going as far as not minding if our pics pop up elsewhere.

Oh, I'm not saying it's not shitty. I'm saying although it's shitty, it happens. And I'm saying I'm assuming the posters know it and take on these risks when they post here, or anywhere else online for that matter.

There are folks who don't already clearly know this?? I ask in the most serious of tones.

All the information you provide here is sage, and those who post would be smart to heed the warning included. But again, they have to understand this concept, right?

As an aside, this post of yours here led me to your fractal art. Wow. :)

Apparently, there are people who have no clue how this internet thing works. They can be easily spotted. All you have to do is look for something like this in their profile or any individual post:

Hint: This does less than nothing to prevent anyone and everyone from stealing and/or using your photos for whatever reason they deem necessary. Whether or not it's against some obscure law is irrelevant. A great man once said: Everything is legal unless you get caught.

These are the same kind of people who will tell a stranger on the street that they are not allowed to take a picture of someone in public without permission. Hint #2: In public, you have no right to privacy. Get over it.

Re: Fractal art. Thank you.

Re: Fractal art. Thank you.

Regarding the university thing - I got no problem with students using my pics in their art... collage the fuck out of them... that’s actually quite a fun thing and I support the arts so...

My objection is people posting them to other sites, often pretending to be the person in the pics... I think that’s quite shitty.

A large part of the problem though is the viewer. Here in litland, when stolen pics are highlighted there is a core of mostly men, who will prefer to attack the person who has highlighted the theft...

Who was the famous example on here? Dee something? Blonde... good looking... always in stunning properties... one of the ampic’ers highlighted hers were stolen from other sites. The men here fell over each other to defend her as it being a tiny misdemeanour because she was a popular poster and presumably made the lonely fuckers feel special. The woman who highlighted it was branded jealous and bitter...

That annoyed the fuck out of me... but like I said, the internet is full of shitty people...

I think anyone today who doesn't realize that their pictures from places like lit, facebook and other social media sites will be download is extremely naive.

My niece who has just started highschool has a subject dedicated to social media and social skills. One thing that stuck with me from a brief conversation about it was "Once it's on the internet it will always be on the internet."

Something I do suggest if you are going to upload pics try and stick with what you would feel comfortable with friends, family, co-workers or potential employers seeing. Or stick with the unrecognizable eg no tattoo's, birthmarks, scars or other distinguishable marks shown in pictures.

This isn't my first time around on lit (MissBubbles which has been deleted) and yes last time a few were stolen and a fake Facebook created by someone in another country.

It's the risk we take for being kinky but after effects can be minimal if you play it smarter.

There’s plenty of people around who don’t understand the permanence of what they post. Removing an image doesn’t mean countless people haven’t already copied it.

I definitely agree with the idea of being discreet and only posting images that wouldn’t make you want to hide forever if they were discovered.

It’s also interesting that I’ve seen people being supportive of someone who is upset that their pics have been stolen and they then defend someone else who has been using stolen pics.

I’ve seen this too, some of the men here will say whatever they think will get them into someone’s virtual knickers. There is a lack of integrity when it comes to what they are actually saying...

That’s some, not all... they are some absolutely lovely souls here, x

So will some of the women. It’s not exclusive to one sex.

But yes there are some wonderful people here.

I would like to post my artwork on here which is artistically altered to not show my real face but what bothers me is the right click save option. On my website I disabled the right click save to file option or anyone can just grab your artwork and keep it. It is a simple bit of coding for my site ad I have asked about it on this platform but not sure they got my message. I feel like the big social media sites are failing right now and would love to use this one more for my art but that right click save thing is a problem.

to be fair .... that is so fricking annoying and so easy to circumvent.
